Department Description: The RNICU is a 33-bed level III unit that provides intensive treatment through continuing care to neonates including advanced respiratory care, high frequency ventilation and Nitric Oxide. An all RN staff provides care with an emphasis on developmentally appropriate nursing activities. The unit is the regional center and provides transport services by a nurse led team to five counties in Mid-Michigan. Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists and Lactation Consultants provide advanced practice nursing. A shared decision-making model provides numerous opportunities for nurses to contribute to the direction and operation of the RNICU.
