APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
POSITION SPECIFICS Engineering Support Specialists apply practical engineering assignments that include facility and experimental support hardware lay-out and design, fabrication, assembly and test; facility maintenance and repair of capital and test equipment in support of various sponsored/University projects; meet with faculty and staff engineers to define the scope of task requirements, and schedule constraints, communicates with engineers and project managers to provide progress reports and facilitating the identification of resources needed to accomplish the task/project.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS Associate Degree 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: NoneThe Radiation Science and Engineering Center (RSEC) within the College of Engineering currently has an opening for an Engineering Support Specialist. This position reports to the senior facility engineer and is principally responsible for assembly, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of electronics and computer equipment used to measure, monitor, or perform desired functions to support reactor operations, research, and/or instruction. This position also performs essential computer and IT support functions (new hardware purchase & setup, OS & software updates, network maintenance, etc.) for computer systems at the RSEC. Along with these duties, the candidate will order, organize, and store spare parts as necessary to maintain reactor and other laboratory equipment. The position will comply with and perform work within established University, regulatory requirements, and facility procedures. The successful candidate will be trained and expected to obtain and maintain an NRC Reactor Operator License.A candidate with experience in both Windows and Macintosh operating systems and IT network support would be highly desired. A Federal background check is required, and candidates must meet the minimum physical performance requirements of 10CFR55 and ANSI/ANS 15.4 (2016). The selected applicant must pass an additional federal background investigation and Environmental Health and Safety Radiation Worker qualification orientation. The position is normally assigned to day shift, but occasional weekend and evening work may be required. The position has rotating call-out duties and for emergency response should be able to report in less than 1 hour. The facility is a regulated drug-free workplace, and applicants must pass drug screening and are subject to random and for-cause testing. Vehicles and personal property may randomly be subject to search upon entering and exiting the facility.
