Job Overview

The Senior Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) plays a critical leadership role in budgeting, planning, forecasting, and analysis for the Digital and Customer function at Macy's, Inc. As the leader of the Digital Finance team, the Senior Director develops long-range plans, annual financial plans, and monthly business forecasts to support strategic initiatives. The role partners cross-functionally and provides ad hoc analytical support in response to the dynamic nature of the business.

The Senior Director collaborates with senior business leaders across Digital, Customer, and Macy's Media Network (MMN) to drive financial decision-making, deliver actionable insights, and support initiatives focused on business growth, productivity, and profit improvement. The role also leads the development of a strong financial foundation that aligns plans with organizational targets and goals.

This position reports directly to the Vice President of FP&A and provides direct support to the Chief Customer and Digital Officer and leadership team.

What You Will Do

Financial Planning



  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify business trends, risks, and opportunities; recommend strategies to mitigate risk and maximize growth. Partner closely with business leaders to enhance website promotions, loyalty programs, and other customer-centric initiatives.
  • Oversee revenue and expense forecasting and planning, including coordination with the direct reports of the Chief Customer and Digital Officer.
  • Lead financial performance analysis against key business metrics and develop new reporting tools to keep senior leaders informed and aligned.
  • Review financial reports produced by other teams, maintain strong partnerships to track performance, and effectively communicate results to finance leadership.
  • Lead the development of the annual capital plan for the Digital and Customer organization, prioritizing critical projects and evaluating associated ROI.


Financial Modeling



  • Conduct in-depth analysis of business trends and strategic priorities at Macy's and within the broader retail industry. Build financial models to estimate the impact of new initiatives and projects that generate incremental returns for the Digital business.
  • Guide teams in developing ad hoc reporting and analyses to assess the effectiveness and interplay of key initiatives.
  • Present financial models and insights to Macy's leadership in both technical and accessible language, facilitating clear decision-making.


Leadership



  • Lead and manage a team of directors and analysts responsible for expense planning, forecasting, and ROI modeling.
  • Oversee project workload distribution and drive strategic decisions around modeling approaches.
  • Motivate, coach, and develop junior finance team members to build skills and advance performance.
  • Partner with senior leaders to craft impactful corporate presentations that convey financial strategy and outcomes.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance the quality, accuracy, and completeness of financial work.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills You Will Need

Financial Planning Expertise: Proven ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes that align with enterprise strategy and drive financial performance across a large matrixed organization.

Financial Modeling & Analysis: Expertise in building robust financial models and conducting in-depth analysis to assess initiative performance, estimate ROI, and support strategic decision-making.

Strategic Thinking: Ability to synthesize trends, risks, and opportunities into actionable strategies that support business growth, improve productivity, and enhance profitability.

Business Acumen: Deep understanding of retail, digital, and customer economics with the ability to assess trade-offs, evaluate capital investment, and align financial plans with business priorities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated success partnering with business leaders across multiple functions to align on financial goals, build consensus, and drive execution.

Executive Communication: Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, compelling narratives tailored to senior leadership audiences and stakeholders.

Team Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, including the ability to coach, develop, and inspire high-performing finance professionals.

Ethical Judgment: High ethical standards and personal integrity, with a consistent track record of transparent, principled decision-making.

Change Agility: Comfort operating in a dynamic environment, with the flexibility to adapt plans and priorities in response to evolving business needs.

Presentation & Storytelling: Skilled in creating and delivering impactful corporate presentations that connect financial strategy with organizational outcomes.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
