Salary Range:$165,000-$375,000

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000 - $375,000 plus bonus eligibility and other elements of our total rewards package. The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

As a Sr Data Engineer, you will:

• Lead the design and implementation of cutting-edge data streaming solutions to process real-time data efficiently and accurately.
• Architect and maintain robust data pipelines that enable seamless data flow across systems, ensuring data integrity and reliability.
• Design and manage datamarts to support advanced business intelligence and analytics needs, providing valuable insights to stakeholders.
• Develop and certify datasets to guarantee data accuracy and consistency, enabling data-driven decision-making within the organization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists and analysts, to gather requirements and deliver innovative data solutions that meet business objectives.
• Optimize data workflows and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal performance and scalability of data infrastructure.
• Enforce data security measures and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations to protect sensitive information.
• Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in data engineering, data science, and machine learning, incorporating best practices into data solutions.

• Lead the end-to-end implementation of data engineering solutions into production systems, overseeing solution design, development, testing, and monitoring to drive operational excellence and business value.

Basic Qualifications:

• I am CURRENTLY authorized to work in the US.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, MS is preferred
• 6+ years of experience in building data engineering solutions
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, Java
• Experience in DevSecOps standards and tools like Jenkins, GitHub
• Proven experience in data engineering, with a focus on data streaming, data pipelines, data orchestration tools, datamart creation, and certified datasets
• Experience with data streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Apache Flink)
• Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., SQL, NoSQL) and modern lakehouse technologies (eg. Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Apache Trino)
• Strong knowledge of ETL processes and tools (e.g., SQL)
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes, specifically Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
• Proficiency in using Jupyter for collaborative data analysis
• Experience with open-source technologies and tools
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Intellectual curiosity and ability to thrive in a team environment that is constantly changing
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technical concepts and to adapt to new technologies quickly
• Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, professional oral or written manner, to be understood by technical and non-technical colleagues

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Rail, Shipping, Airline, Logistics, Warehousing, Supply Chain, or other Transportation industries or experience in a High-Tech industry
• Experience working in an Agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
• Experience with cloud platforms
• Knowledge of geospatial data transformation and spatial libraries
• Experience with MLOps tools like MLflow, Kubeflow, or similar.
• Proficiency in Model Deployment, Model Automation, Model Monitoring, Model Optimization & Compliance
