Salary Range:$243,750-$406,250

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $243,750-$406,250 plus bonus eligibility and other elements of our total rewards package. The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.In addition to base pay, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

As a Sr Staff Infrastructure Engineer, you will

  • Lead the design, deployment, and management of SAP infrastructure, including SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA, SAP MaxDB, and MS SQL Server in both on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Architect cloud-native solutions for SAP workloads (AWS, Azure), ensuring high availability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Design and implement SAP Security roles and authorizations across ECC, HANA, BW, Fiori and other SAP Modules.
  • Conduct security reviews and audits including SoD analysis and compliance reporting.
  • Manage and maintain SAP GRC Access Control, Process Control and Risk Management.
  • Lead security-related projects, such as system migrations, upgrades and integrations
  • Work with functional teams and the business to gather security requirements and deliver optimum business outcomes
  • Enforce SAP security best practices, including role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and integration with SAP Identity Authentication Service (IAS)and SAP Single Sign-On (SSO).
  • Ensure SAP systems and their integrations comply with SAP GRCstandards and that data flows are secure, compliant, and auditable.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (SAP Basis, Security, Development, Cloud Operations) to ensure alignment on infrastructure, security, and integration needs.
  • Interface with internal and external auditors
  • Leverage SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)to enhance the integration between SAP S/4HANA, SAP Fiori, SAP Analytics Cloud, and third-party cloud and on-premise systems.
  • Optimize SAP and BTP landscapes to meet the evolving needs of the business, enabling seamless integration with external applications and services.
  • Utilize Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraformand Ansibleto automate SAP landscape provisioning, management, and updates in the cloud and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Work with LAMA(Landscape Management Automation) to manage both SAP and BTP infrastructures, enabling seamless integration and orchestration with other platforms.
  • Develop and implement opensource orchestration tools for startup / shutdown and system refreshes
  • Manage and optimize SAP databases such as SAP HANA, SAP MaxDB, and MS SQL Server.
  • Design and implement real-time replication strategiesfor SAP HANA, including integration with non-SAP databases and third-party applications, using SAP Data Services, SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT), or other real-time data integration tools.
  • Work on implementing SAP Data Intelligenceor SAP Data Hubfor orchestrating real-time data movement and transformations across SAP and non-SAP systems.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure database high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies are in place for mission-critical SAP workloads.
  • Work with Foundations Team to develop solutions for DR isolation so DR testing can be done without downtime
  • Architect and implement real-time integrationand event-driven architecturesto synchronize data between SAP systems and external platforms (e.g., CRM, ERP, supply chain systems).
  • Develop robust API-based integrationsleveraging SAP API Management and other tools like SAP Business Application Studioto enable smooth communication between SAP S/4HANA, BTP services, and external systems.
  • Manage content management solutions within SAP, including SAP Document Management System (DMS)and integrating them with cloud content services in the SAP BTP.
  • Implement cloud-native monitoring solutions for SAP systems and BTP services, ensuring real-time monitoring and alerts for infrastructure and application performance.
  • Deploy open-source monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix) alongside SAP Cloud ALMfor comprehensive visibility across hybrid SAP landscapes.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of SAP infrastructure, real-time replication strategies, integration patterns, automation workflows, and BTP configurations.
  • Mentor junior engineers on best practices for SAP infrastructure, cloud automation, and integration management.
  • Own and manage the SAP change and release management lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, coordination and deployment of SAP transports across development, QA and production environments
  • Define and enforce release policies and standards
  • Oversee the SAP transport landscape and ensure changes are properly tracked, tested and approved before promotion
  • Manage emergency changes and develop rollback plans to ensure minimal business impact in case of release issues
  • Drive continuous improvement in SAP release management process through automation, tools and feedback loops

Basic Qualifications

  • Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in SAP infrastructure management and working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with SAP BTP and integration solutions is highly desirable.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SAP infrastructure, including SAP S/4HANA, SAP HANA, SAP MaxDB, and MS SQL Server databases.
  • In-depth experience with SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), particularly in integration using SAP Integration Suite, SAP API Management, and SAP Analytics Cloud.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) with experience deploying and managing SAP workloads.
  • Strong experience in designing and implementing real-time replicationstrategies, including SAP HANA replication, data services, and integration with non-SAP systems.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC)using Terraform, Ansible, and automation of SAP and cloud landscapes.
  • Experience integrating SAP systems with third-party systems using SAP Integration Suite, APIs, and other integration technologies.
  • Knowledge of real-time data integrationusing tools like SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT)and SAP Data Intelligence.
  • Experience with API Managementfor orchestrating communication between SAP and external systems.
  • Experience managing and optimizing SAP HANA, SAP MaxDB, and MS SQL Server databases.
  • Expertise in real-time data integrationand data replicationstrategies to synchronize SAP systems with external databases or applications.
  • Deep understanding of SAP security, including user management, encryption, and compliance with SAP GRCstandards.
  • Experience implementing SAP Identity Authentication Service (IAS)and SAP Single Sign-On (SSO).
  • Experience with CI/CDpipelines for automating the deployment and updates of SAP systems, including the integration of SAP systems into cloud-native CI/CD processes.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SAP GRC Access Control suite
  • Deep understanding of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), SoD principles and SAP audit controls
  • Knowledge of compliance standards such as SOX and ISO 27001
  • Experience with user provisioning, identity management and security automation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SAP Certified Technology Associate, SAP Certified BTP Integration Consultant) and GRC are a plus.
  • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and their application to SAP workloads.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecturesand real-time data replication strategies.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
