Senior AWS Cloud/Application Software Developer

Overview:

We are seeking experienced Senior AWS Cloud/Application Software Developers with deep expertise in cloud-native application development, cloud infrastructure management, containerization and Kubernetes, and Python application development. You will play a key role in designing and developing software data processing pipelines for astronomical data.

Project Focus:

These roles support the Science Operations Center (SOC) for the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. You will contribute to multiple mission-critical systems, including:

• Data processing pipelines for the Wide Field Instrument (WFI)
• A data-analysis platform for astronomers
• The mission data archive for both the WFI and coronagraph instruments
• Data delivery via the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST)

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect, develop, and maintain cloud-native software applications and data pipelines
• Manage and optimize AWS cloud infrastructure
• Implement containerized solutions using Kubernetes
• Develop and maintain backend systems using Python
• Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of data processing services
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers to meet mission requirements
• Maintain robust, secure access to mission archives

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in AWS Cloud infrastructure and services
• Strong programming skills in Python
• Expertise in containerization technologies (e.g., Docker)
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes in production environments
• Familiarity with large-scale data processing and scientific computing is a plus
• Background in astronomy or space science is desirable but not required
