We are seeking a Plant Team Member for our Sample Department in the Block Plant for our customer, County Materials, in Janesville, WI.

Job Duties:


  • Sample and Pallet Handling: Pull and prepare samples and partial pallets, ensuring proper packaging for shipping or trucking. This includes items such as pavers, blocks, sample materials (e.g., GD bags, panels), literature, and miscellaneous sample products.
  • Shipping and Logistics: Obtain weights and dimensions for shipments and coordinate with the shipping or trucking departments. Ensure that samples are packed securely for transport.
  • Collaboration: Work with team members to assemble and ship project-based sample requests.
  • Labeling: Label pavers when requested or send labels with sample products for customers to apply.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in tracking and maintaining inventory of the sample area and sample products, ensuring accuracy and availability.
  • Weather-Resilient Work: Pull samples in all weather conditions while adhering to safety protocols.
  • Sample Organization: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sample area (both inside and outside), ensuring easy access and efficient workflows. This includes maintaining equipment used. (ensure forklift is clean and mechanically taken care of)
  • Material Creation: Produce sample materials, such as Display hand panels and Grand Discover bags, as needed.
  • Punctuality and Scheduling: Adhere to work schedules and ensure tasks are completed on time. Maintain consistency in meeting deadlines.
  • Flexible Assistance: Assist with any special or "odd-ball" requests as directed by supervisor.
  • Timely Task Execution: Complete all tasks in a timely and efficient manner, prioritizing based on department needs.
  • Inventory and Ordering: Help monitor sample department supplies and assist in tracking items that need to be reordered to maintain stock levels.
  • Communication: Notify the team when additional sample products are needed. Communicate when samples are complete or if there are any issues preventing the completion of samples, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all products sent out meet quality standards and are manufactured correctly. Inspect samples for defects or discrepancies before shipment.
  • Time-Off Requests: Submit time-off requests at least one week in advance, with limited exceptions allowed. Communicate any scheduling conflicts or urgent needs to management as soon as possible.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively participate in identifying areas for improvement in sample preparation, shipping, and inventory management processes. Suggest and implement ideas to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance overall workflow.
  • Customer Communication: Assist with customer inquiries regarding sample products, shipping timelines, and availability. Ensure that customer needs are met in a professional and timely manner, fostering positive customer relationships.


Work Environment:


  • Work in indoor and outdoor weather conditions, including extreme hot or cold temperatures
  • Work near moving machinery and equipment - could include electrical hazards
  • Work in a noisy environment


Physical Requirements:


  • Carrying/Lifting 10 - 40 Pounds frequently
  • Carrying/Lifting > 40 Pounds occasionally
  • Standing / Walking / Climbing
  • Squatting/Crouching/Kneeling/Bending
  • Pushing / Pulling / Reaching Above Shoulder


Experience & Qualifications:


  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year forklift experience.
  • Knowledge of commonly used industry concepts, practices, and procedures preferred.
  • Exercise good judgment regarding work site unloading and operation
  • Ability to perform well as a team
  • Self-motivator and must be flexible in order to accommodate needs of your team.
  • Safety minded when performing tasks
  • Ability and willingness to learn and be trained
