Principal Optical System Engineer - Optical Solutions

Molex is seeking a Principal Optical Systems Engineer to join our Optical Solutions Business Unit. In this role, the successful candidate will be part of a world-class engineering team, contributing to the design and development of next generation Optical Amplifier and other transport solution product. The engineer will have responsibility for the definition, characterization and optimization of optical transport solution products in various application environments. Consequently, the engineer will also understand the optical transport network and associated optical modules and components. The engineer will be making design tradeoffs among product performance parameters to optimize performance, reliability and cost for the specific application. The Engineer will be working in a multi disciplinary engineering team and acting as a key technical interface with customers, critical suppliers and a variety of internal partners such as product marketing, quality and manufacturing. This is a hands-on role requiring a unique blend of experimental and simulation capabilities coupled with a strong knowledge of optical transport system. Some travel is expected in this role.

What You Will Do

  • Contribute to the definition of the product requirements based on the customer's application needs, technical specifications and relevant industry standards
  • Work with marketing and internal design team on product architecture design, evaluate and recommend solutions, develop calibration and control algorithms to optimize system level performance as well as development of methodology and requirement for production test on quality and efficiency
  • Work in system group in partitioning development tasks, review and approval function and interface specs, testing specification and reliability plan.
  • Technical lead on product development with multi discipline team members for whole NPI
  • Technical advisory to other function engineering resources on customer technical support, providing technical guidance in problem solving of issues that may arise in customer deployment as well as internal manufacturing.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related field
  • At least 15 years of Optical Amplifier based optical transport line card or system product development with role on Optical System Engineering
  • Strong knowledge of Telecom/Datacom standards, specifications and methodologies, knowledge and experience on Ethernet, OTN, SDN
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Amplified WDM, ROADM based optical transmission systems modeling, simulation, and performance tradeoff analysis
  • Strong knowledge and experience on optical transceivers, WDM, EDFA, Raman Amplifier, WSS, OCM, OTDR, and other optical centric network elements
  • Knowledge and experience on network product hardware and software design, familiar with X86 embedded system, NetConf/YANG, Sonic, etc.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • PhD in electrical engineering, physics
  • Program management or engineering team management knowledge and experience
  • Bilingual skills in Chinese

For this role, we anticipate paying $200,000- $280,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
