Position Summary

The HSE internship offers hands-on experience in key areas of Health, Safety, and Environmental management within the oil and gas industry, including risk assessments, safety training, regulatory compliance, and emergency response planning.

Assisting the HSE team in implementing and maintaining safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. The HSE Intern will collaborate closely with an assigned mentor to support their professional development and ensure performance objectives are successfully achieved. Project and responsibilities will be tailored to align with the intern's academic background and experience, offering practical, real-word application of classroom learning.

This is a paid, summer Internship based onsite in Morgan City, Louisiana, running from May through August.


Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist in conducting safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across office and field locations to identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards.
  • Participate in incident investigations-including industrial accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses-by gathering information, interviewing employees, identifying root causes, and supporting the development of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Support the development, review, and maintenance of safety documentation such as Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), hazard reports, and HSSE Management System documents in accordance with company procedures.
  • Help organize and deliver safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee training sessions on topics such as regulatory compliance, hazard recognition, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor and track compliance with safety protocols, including PPE usage, safety signage, emergency response equipment, and environmental practices such as waste management and spill response.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of employee safety programs by reviewing their effectiveness and recommending enhancements.
  • Maintain accurate HSSE records and data across various software platforms, supporting document control and reporting requirements.
  • Stay informed on current safety policies, regulations, and industry best practices to support proactive risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a strong safety culture across all operational areas.
  • Perform additional administrative and field support duties as assigned.
  • Performs additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support organizational objectives.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program with at least one (1) year completed in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental (HSE) Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Basic understanding of HSE principles and regulatory standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, using Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Willingness to work in both office and field environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

DESIRED:

  • Previous internship or work experience in an industrial or energy-related setting.
  • Familiarity with incident reporting systems and safety management software.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
