About the Team

Our Robotics team is focused on unlocking general-purpose robotics and pushing towards AGI-level intelligence in dynamic, real-world settings. Working across the entire model stack, we integrate cutting-edge hardware and software to explore a broad range of robotic form factors. We strive to seamlessly blend high-level AI capabilities with the constraints of physical systems to improve peoples' lives.

About the Role

As a Sensor Signal Processing Engineer, you will write software that lives at the boundary between hardware and software. You will control sensors, receive their data, perform any necessary transformations, and deliver the data to model researchers. Expect to interface with traditional cameras, cameras with unusual color filter arrays or sensors, LiDARs, airborne microphones, contact vibrometers, novel haptic devices, and more.

We're looking for people who have broad experience in signal processing and possibly a specialty in camera image processing. Strong math, physics, and software skills applied to specialized targets (e.g., DSPs, ISPs, and GPUs) are a must.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and requires in-person 5 days a week.

In this role, you will:

  • Control sensors across myriad potential interfaces, e.g., cameras over CSI+I2C, IMUs via SPI+GPIO, acoustic sensors via I2S+I2C, etc.

  • Sweat the details of sensor data sampling, triggering, and timestamping.

  • Process data that comes back to maximize utility to downstream consumers. For example, with cameras that might mean setting up and tuning a simple hardware ISP, or it might mean building one from scratch in software.

  • Work with hardware engineers to select good sensors and integrate them in ways that optimize the resulting data quality.

  • Work with model researchers to maximize end to end system performance and make good decisions about how to structure signal processing flows.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have written camera drivers and tuned ISP parameters.

  • Have used low-level peripherals on Linux systems (e.g., I2C, SPI, GPIO).

  • Are familiar with timers, timestamping, and time synchronization (e.g., gPTP).

  • Have strong physics intuition about sensing modalities and understand how various sensors work.

  • Have strong digital signal processing skills and can apply them to diverse execution targets.

  • Have some background in information theory.
