The Director of Risk Management will oversee the organization's risk management strategy, ensuring a comprehensive approach to risk mitigation and championing a risk-aware culture. This role will partner closely with our insurance broker and manage the insurance program, including the annual renewal process. The Director of Risk Management will have the opportunity to build and enhance the risk management function for the organization, identifying needs in risk management and safety, creating policies and best practices, and establishing enterprise risk management framework.
Responsibilities
Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies in collaboration with various departments.
- Insurance Broker Partnership: Partner with insurance broker and carriers to evaluate current insurance coverage and assess organizational needs to ensure appropriate coverage in all risk areas. Ensure accurate insurance policy placement and negotiate premiums, terms, and conditions to ensure comprehensive coverage and cost-effectiveness.
- Annual Insurance Program Renewal: Facilitate the renewal process for all insurance policies, including liability, property, workers' compensation, director and officer, cyber, and professional liability, working with both internal teams and external insurance partners.
- Loss Runs Management: Analyze and manage loss runs to identify trends, assess risk exposure, and develop strategies to proactively mitigate potential losses. Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management. Oversee the management of insurance claims, ensuring timely reporting to insurance carriers, accurate documentation, and coordination with internal teams for proper resolution.
- Legal Collaboration: Work closely with the legal team to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations related to risk and insurance. Assist in the review and negotiation of insurance-related contracts and agreements.
- Policy Development: Develop and maintain risk management policies and procedures. Ensure that all employees are informed about risk management practices and policies.
- Training and Education: Design and deliver risk management and insurance related training programs to promote compliance and advance a risk-aware company culture.
- Reporting and Communication: Prepare and present risk management reports to senior leadership. Communicate risk management strategies and initiatives to stakeholders across the organization.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in risk management and insurance. Recommend improvements to enhance the organization's risk management framework. Identify current and future personnel needs in safety, claims, and risk management.
Qualifications
- Education Level: Bachelor's Degree ; Major: Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance or a related field of study
- In lieu of higher education, the ratio is 1:1 meaning one year of college equals one year of work experience and vice-versa.
- Experience in lieu of required education is acceptable
- Customarily has at least eight (8) years of experience in risk management; Healthcare industry experience is preferred.
Job-Related Skills/Competencies
- Strong understanding of insurance products, risk assessment methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including legal, finance, and operations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in risk management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
