Position Description:

The University of Iowa College of Nursing is currently recruiting applicants for the Adult Medical Surgical Practicum area (2 clinical days/onsite) on the Instructional track. Instructional track positions need individuals with a strong foundation of clinical teaching in an undergraduate pre-licensure program and ability to incorporate active learning strategies to provide intensive teaching in classes and in clinical practicums. Instructional track faculty positions are being offered as part-time (50%) academic year (9 months) appointments. Teaching assignments are made by the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs in collaboration with the Executive Associate Dean.This position requires in-person presence at the College of Nursing on the UI campus.

Education Requirement:


  • Earned master's from an accredited school of nursing.


Required Qualifications:


  • Expertise and experience in Adult Medical Surgical nursing
  • Evidence of potential in teaching in nursing which can be demonstrated through clinical practice, experience in classroom or clinical teaching (including as a teaching assistant), staff education/development, precepting, earned teaching certificate, advising, mentoring, or other means.
  • Evidence of potential to contribute to departmental and collegiate service.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated by the ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors to provide excellent customer service and maintain working relationships.
  • Eligibility and ability to obtain and maintain licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa. Selected candidate must complete the State of Iowa Registered Nurse licensure process upon appointment.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Professional service to nursing/health organizations
  • Clinical experience and expertise in Adult Medical Surgical nursing.
