Position Summary: Responsible for the maintenance, support, compliance, and improvement of the metrology laboratory. Support quality system by performing product audits, gauge studies, process audits, problem solving, product disposition and other analytical methods applicable to related requirements per standards and specifications. Will also be responsible for the maintenance, support, compliance, and improvement of the metrology laboratory
- Report directly to Plant Quality Manager or Quality Engineer
- Work closely with Production, Engineering Product Engineering, and Maintenance
Essential Functions:
- Must be able to read accurately gauges, prints, part identification, specifications, and procedures.
- Verify accuracy of gages and measuring instruments, such as calipers, plug gages, dial indicators, and thread gages using master gages and standards.
- Set-up, maintain, and report MSA Studies and SPC Program. Assist with data and product/process information and analysis
- Maintain calibration records and service/control gage inventory.
- Maintain departmental records compliant to internal and external standards.
- Audit processes and work areas for conformance to appropriate procedures, instructions, and standards.
- Accurately read gages, prints, part identification, specifications, and procedures (internal and external).
- Select, set-up and utilize complex measuring equipment, along with conduct complex layouts without prescribed procedures.
- Understand and apply inspection sampling plans.
- Maintain a high degree of cleanliness, organization, quality, and safety.
- Understand material flow of production parts and components.
- Perform line inspections and testing when necessary.
- Knowledge of ISO Internal Audit procedures and process audits. Update ISO procedures, work instructions and standard work with direction from QA Engineer / Manager.
- Assist in the analysis of customer problems, participate and lead problem solving meetings. May initiate appropriate corrective action to resolve quality problems, of internal or external sources, with direction from QA Engineer/Manager
- Actively participate in Parker's Lean and HPT initiatives.
- Generate inspection reports, Perform containment procedures and maintain quarantine area. Detect and report problems or unusual conditions to manager/supervisor.
- Apply proper controls for identification and containment of suspect and nonconforming material including inspection, measuring and test equipment.
- Assist in control plans and process improvements.
- Provide certifications as requested by customer from VOEC.
- Responsible for customer PPAP submissions which can include: dimensional checks, gathering required information/forms, and interfacing with customers - both internal and external.
- Perform product inspection and testing as required per appropriate specification or standard.
- Obtain, evaluate, and document testing requirements on designated raw materials and finished goods.
- Maintain departmental records and perform email tasks daily
- Attend special training classes as necessary to maintain certifications and improve skill sets.
- Provide support to engineering and manufacturing with respect to tool inspection and inspection, measuring and test equipment.
- Train others in Quality related skills and procedures.
- Ability to work all shifts and work overtime as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education and Experience Diploma or G.E.D. Two (2) years' experience in quality or inspection preferred. Previous manufacturing experience preferred. Successful passing of practical initial skills and ability testing is required. Topics may include, but are not limited to: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment to meet quality and quantity quotas.
- Use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions within recognized procedures.
- Demonstration of proficiency in shop math, basic reading, writing and print reading.
- Ability to train, instruct and assist trainees through the training period.
- Ability to conduct tests and inspections of product.
- Demonstration of written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to present in front of various group sizes and backgrounds.
- Demonstration of a strong work ethic and is a self-starter.
- Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Ability to adhere to structured work guidelines and schedules.
- Ability to read and follow visual cues.
- Knowledge of hand tools including their uses.
- Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to work individually and as a team.
- Demonstration of mechanical aptitude.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to occasionally lift, push and carry up to fifty (50) pounds on an average eight (8) hour shift.
- Must be able to stand and sit intermittently during an average eight (8) hour shift.
- Must be able to reach, bend, twist, reach overhead, walk, and carry parts.
