Position Purpose
Acting on own initiative, the Vice President & Controller is responsible for directing and coordinating the Company's accounting financial tax reporting functions. The role leads the financial reporting processes and ensures that internal and external financial results are timely, accurate and in accordance with all applicable regulatory guidelines, and that fiduciary obligations to the Board and Shareholders are met. The position also oversees the independent financial statement audit, including completion of audited financial statements and management discussion. The Vice President & Controller is also responsible for the development, modification and implementation of all accounting policies and procedures and for ensuring that a strong internal controls environment is in place.
Functional Responsibility
- Oversees, directs, and manages activities and the leadership team's performance in areas of responsibility
- Drives and models company culture and holds self, peers, and direct reports accountable for demonstrating a constructive company culture through influential, personal behavior and actions
- Communicates the company's vision and mission; develops and implements the strategies that guide the direction of the business in areas of responsibility
- Identifies, analyzes, and drives the competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, new industry developments, best practices, standards, etc.; maintains awareness of regulatory changes to ensure compliance and continually improve operations
- Owns and oversees the development of the rolled-up budget, and conducts financial planning and analysis to ensure budget and other financial goals are in line with business strategy
- Directs the optimization of resources and results; collaborates with cross-functional leaders to position and integrate business functions and remove obstacles to accomplish key objectives and high impact initiatives
- Drives strategic alignment, guides leadership team, and works cross-functionally in the development of staffing plans; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities to achieve the company's goals and objectives
- Promotes and ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all employees
- Aligns leaders on change initiatives, leads the way, and prepares the company for success in a continually changing environment
- Fosters a work environment that encourages creative thinking, promotes flexibility, and drives innovation
- Ensures that employee issues, concerns, and complaints are handled in accordance with company policies and applicable legal advice for clear, consistent messaging and resolution

- Inspires, guides, and develops direct reports; identifies and mentors successor; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback, and ensures proper GPS documentation of employee performance, recognition, and deficiencies
Essential Duties
- Manages, leads, and develops the accounting team to help achieve desired results including coaching, counseling, and mentoring employees as well as planning, monitoring, and appraising performance results
- Oversees the activities of the accounting function for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits and annual budgets
- Ensures that accurate books and records are maintained and that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles
- Oversees the activities of the disbursement function, ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, and cash control
- Oversees the activities of the accounts receivable function to ensure the accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components including, but not limited to, billings and cash receipts application
- Assures corporate income tax compliance with accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes
- Establishes and maintains systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, and enhances the company's value, including the protection of assets
- Ensures financial policies, procedures, and systems are appropriate and support Company vision, operational goals, desired culture, and high performance as well as protect the Company's interests
- Plans and coordinates the external audit process, including oversight of independent auditor and staff; coordinates and prepares the annual audited financial statements, including related footnote disclosures, and accompanying management discussion and analysis
- Responsible for maintaining insurance programs which cover all lines of commercial coverages; works closely with the human resources department to review and maintain medical, dental and worker's compensation insurance programs. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipates future legislation, enforces adherence to requirements, files financial reports, and advises management on needed actions
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviews professional publications, establishes personal networks, and participates in professional societies
- Ensures departmental activities are consistent with meeting the Company's stated commitments. Builds strong relationships with other functional leaders to recommend and implement solutions to Company issues and financial Information Solutions (IS) system infrastructure improvements.
- Responds to the Chief Financial Officer as assigned with accurate and timely work to facilitate the CFO's financial needs
- Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special reports as needed

Minimum Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA preferred
- Minimum of 10-15 years of senior financial management experience in a dynamic business environment
- Consumer Products, Wine and Spirits industry experience preferred
Certificates and Licenses
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity working with large financial ERP Systems (SAP, JDE, etc.) and automated planning tools (Hyperion, BPC, Cognos, etc.) and strong skills in Microsoft Office suite tools
- Accomplished leader and manager of people with the ability to attract, develop, and retain a strong team
- Demonstrated success in implementing internal controls, budgets, and forecasting systems in a project environment with the ability to analyze results against plan
- Extensive experience dealing cross-functionally with multiple divisions across the organization

Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time. California Pay Transparency Disclaimer: This is a Exempt position. The pay range for this position is $205,200.00 to $307,800.00. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
