Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must be proficient with computers and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as they apply to recruitment and player eligibility.
  • Minimum requirement of NFCA Gold Star Certificate.
  • Must pass NCAA recruiting test prior to applying.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of defense and hitting.
  • Must have experience in organizing and tracking finances in budget as well as fundraising in Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to scout opposing teams and develop a report for Head Coach.
  • Must be willing to be actively involved in the Appalachian State and Boone community.

License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications
Coaching or competing experience at the collegiate level preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The athletic program at Appalachian State University operates on the premise that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of the institution's overall program of education. This position will represent the athletics director in various capacities.

Other responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all aspects of a Division I softball program including, but not limited to:

  • Assist in daily program duties
  • Assist in daily practice duties
  • On campus and on the road recruiting trips
  • Assist in student athlete academic progress
  • Some experience catching or working with catchers is preferred
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach


This position serves as the program's NCAA compliance liaison, and is responsible for coordinating any App State softball NCAA compliance-related activities with the App State Athletics Compliance Office.

This position will also assist the head coach in organization, administration and promotion of the Appalachian State Softball program.

Candidates must be committed to the academic and athletic success of the student-athlete.
