Job Summary

This position sits on the Learning and Development (L&D) team and reports to the L&D Director. The Trainer 4 role supports the UC Davis mission of patient care, teaching, research and public service by designing and delivering learning and development opportunities for UC Davis employees, supporting both UC Davis and UC Davis Health.

This position serves as an expert in expanding employee and manager skills, knowledge, and abilities, thereby contributing to the success of individual employees and the UC Davis organization. This position serves as a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall eld of adult learning and development, with expertise in specic areas such as professional effectiveness, supervisor and leader development, communication and customer service.

The primary responsibility of this position is to develop, design, deliver and evaluate classroom, virtual and individual/group learning and development programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training
  • Extensive experience applying training and delivery methodologies, adult learning theory, instructional design and curriculum development, and organizational diagnosis and management strategies in support of employee/staff development.
  • Extensive experience consulting on training development projects and working with diverse subject matter experts, applying advanced knowledge of the L&D functional area and how training impacts other areas in human resources and the organization.
  • Extensive experience designing and evaluating training series, development programs, and other complex curricula on topics relevant to the Human Resources Learning and Development portfolio (personal development and effectiveness, customer service, communication and interpersonal dynamics, manager and leader development, team development, change management, etc.).
  • Experience serving diverse audiences of all levels and occupations, with sensitivity to diverse academic and socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background as represented by UC Davis and UC Davis Health staff.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills to anticipate and identify issues, evaluate and identify trends and information, and propose data-informed decisions.
  • Maintain professional composure and effectiveness in a rapidly changing environment with high customer and stakeholder expectations.
  • Advanced public speaking and group facilitation skills to engage large and diverse audiences in an engaging, interactive and effective, manner, and demonstrated ability to develop these skills in others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications in Gallup Clifton Strengths, Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue, and/or Prosci Change Management.
  • Advanced degree or training in adult learning theory or related subject.
  • Demonstrated training experience within Higher Education and/or Healthcare.
  • Formal supervisory experience and demonstrated experience in manager/leader training and development.
  • Demonstrated skill in conducting needs assessments and task analyses.
  • Knowledge of HR functions ad and systems, including performance management.
  • Ability to navigate and instruct on complex HR policies and practices.
  • Subject matter expertise in people management and communication

Department Overview

Department Overview Learning and Organizational Development (L&OD) in Human Resources manages organization-wide programs and initiatives for UC Davis and UC Davis Health in support of organizational effectiveness.

Initiatives include individual and manager/leader professional and career development, talent and performance management, staff engagement, change management, and strategic planning.

L&OD ensures HR, HRBPs and HR liaisons have the tools and support required to work directly with their departments at both the academic and health campuses, providing expert consulting for HR initiatives such as performance management, employee engagement, employee recognition, succession planning, and curricula to support the skill development and training compliance needs of their staff, supervisors, and managers.

L&OD supports approximately 26,000 staff, faculty, and students (Faculty and Academic; 4,500 FTE; Staff 16,500 FTE; Student Employees 5,000 FTE) and there are approximately fifteen (15) collective agreements for unionized staff, as well as personnel policies for Senior Management, Management, Professional, Support and Academic staff.
