Responsibilities

Willow Springs Center has an opening for the Director of Behavioral Health.

The Director of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for the overall management of the Milieu Department, the Activity Coordinators, and the Scheduler. The Director of Behavioral Health Services ensures the efficient functioning of the therapeutic milieu through developing both immediate and ongoing strategies. Consistently communicates with the Registered Nurses on shift, Director of Nursing, and the Director of Clinical Services. Works directly with patients to assist them succeed in the milieu program and ensure the patients safety while on the unit, at school or participating in an activity. MHTs & Activity Coordinators have the primary responsibility for running groups on the unit and for ensuring that the daily schedule is followed.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Behavioral Health Services provides administrative leadership for the Milieu department with the primary responsibility of overseeing the Milieu staff, Activity Coordinators, and the Scheduler.
  • Manage administrative tasks for the Milieu department, such as managing resources (FTEs, budget, etc.), enforcing policy compliance, and ensuring proper safety and sanitation behaviors.
  • Active participant in the recruitment and hiring of Milieu staff.
  • Assists Milieu staff to set and reach goals, develop their skills, and improve their delivery of patient care.
  • Develops departmental policies as necessary and creates a plan to review, update, and communicate new policies and changes to existing policies. Stays abreast of all changes to regulatory mandates and informs subordinates of changes. Develops training programs to ensure employees know, understand, and practice in accordance with all Facility protocols and regulatory mandates.
  • Will cover techs when staffing ratios are not in compliance.
  • Creates programming, trainings, protocols, and procedures for the safety and management of the milieu.
  • Auditing medical record documentation, communication among interdisciplinary team, schedule compliance, protocol compliance, and procedural compliance.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned/required of this position.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree required, in related field preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in an inpatient/outpatient psychiatric/mental health setting with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques, demonstrated understanding of mental illness and related behavioral management techniques required. Minimum of 3-5 years of supervision required. Experience in the development of therapeutic programs targeted for special population preferred.
