INDUSTRIAL DRIVER OPERATOR
PAY: $31.00 Hourly LOCATION: Monterey County, CA Position Summary: The Driver Operator is responsible for responsibility for the operation and maintenance of fire suppression equipment, and fire apparatus, but also has responsibility for firefighting, fire prevention, and other fire service activities. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides standby coverage for specific clients that may include responding to fires with their fire company driving fire apparatus, including Type IV and support equipment quickly and safely to the emergency. Properly operates fire apparatus, makes pump, and suction hose connections, and operates the fire apparatus to supply water in proper quantities and pressures to gain effective control of the fire.
- Assures that fire apparatus is safe and ready for service and apparatus equipment is secure through regular and preventive maintenance of the fire apparatus and by testing the apparatus on a routine basis. Makes and keeps accurate logs and records regarding the maintenance of fire apparatus, without being asked. Promptly notifies their immediate supervisor of needed repairs.
- Maintains a current and thorough working knowledge of the operation of all fire apparatus and is able to properly and skillfully operate all fire apparatus.
- Maintains familiarity with Company practices and procedures relative to water supply, hose streams, operation of fire apparatus, and other essentials which will enable them to completely perform the duties of a Driver Operator.
- Conducts fuel reduction activities to reduce hazardous fuels in a safe and timely manner. Assist clients in reaching their goal of a fire safe environment. Effectively utilizes appropriate educational approaches to fire prevention where needed.
- Remains skilled in modern fire suppression tactics, methods, and procedures through training drills, and other frequent and timely skill maintenance programs.
- Keeps the operational bases and related grounds, facilities, and supplies in a clean, orderly and usable condition.
- Performs routine non-firefighting work tasks willingly and adequately such as working on Company records, taking weather readings on assignments, and maintaining proper timecards and following company policies and procedures.
- Functions well as a team member of a fire company at any emergency or non-emergency scene and willingly accepts their share of the work required.
- Maintains an adequate level of physical fitness to meet the physical requirements required to perform firefighting and fuel reduction tasks.
- Projects a positive image to the clients as a fire service professional.
- Abides by the Companies rules, regulations, policies, procedures, mission, guiding principles and firefighter empowerment, and the Capstone Way.
- Drives Company vehicles while obeying all vehicle codes and laws and paying strict attention to Clients particular environmental and safety needs.
Education and Experience: Requirement A:
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid Medical Examiner's Card
- Clean Driver's Record
- High School Diploma or GED
Requirement B
- CPR with AED
- EMT
- Physical Fitness (Initial Hire and Annually)
- Work Capacity Test - Arduous Level (Pack Test)
- Pass full DOT physical: bending, pushing, pulling, crouching, and vision
Minimum Qualifications:
- 21 years old (min insurance requirement) ANd
- 2 year part time experience with a recognized all risk Volunteer Fire Department/(Minimum of 50 shifts/yr) OR
- One Year full time experience with a professional department AND
- 1 or more years' experience at CFMI or equivalent
Minimum Training Requirements:
- Driver/Operator 1A and 1B or Equivalent AND
- CA State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 OR
- Military Driver Operator Equivalent OR
- NWCG FFT1 with S-131, S-133, S-216 (PMS 419) and signed Task Book
Desirable Qualifications:
- I-200, S-211, S-212; Haz FRO

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a part-time position.
Travel:
- This position requires routine visits to personnel at various locations and sites. Overnight travel is rare.
Work Environment:
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
