This position is for Parker Hannifin's Composite Sealing Systems Division, located in San Diego (Otay Mesa), California. The standard work hours are from Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Travel required, up to 25%.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The role is responsible for developing and supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures to achieve facility objectives, with a focus on accident prevention, regulatory compliance, energy management, waste minimization, and management systems. This includes leading EHS training initiatives, managing corrective actions from audits, and serving as the onsite liaison. The position ensures timely and accurate EHS reporting, maintains necessary records, and enforces compliance with corporate policies and directives. Additionally, the role involves supporting customer EHS requirements, directing waste management programs, and integrating EHS efforts with Lean, HR, and Supply Chain functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and support programs and procedures to meet facility objectives and targets in EHS. Key focus points include:
    • Accident Prevention
    • EHS Regulatory Compliance
    • Energy management and Use Reduction
    • Waste Minimization
    • Management Systems (as required)
  • Lead and coordinate all EHS training initiatives to ensure compliance and enhance team safety awareness.
  • Oversee and manage corrective actions arising from Corporate EHS audits.
  • Serve as the onsite liaison for the Corporate EHS Department, managing EPA-related actions-including but not limited to Notices of Violation (NOVs), cleanups, and complaints-under corporate guidance.
  • Act as the onsite point of contact for the Corporate EHS Department, overseeing OSHA-related activities such as inspections, noncompliance letters, and informal conferences in accordance with corporate direction.
  • Direct all applicable EHS reporting requirements in a timely and accurate manner an maintain necessary records.
  • Ensure compliance with Corporate EHS Policy and Directives.
  • Chair ISO 14000 and 18000 Committees (if applicable)
  • Support customer EHS requirements (i.e. IMDS)
  • Direct the division's waste management program.
  • Support and integrate EHS into Lean, HR, and Supply Chain efforts.
  • Lead High-Performance Teams (HPT) to drive continuous improvement initiatives and enhance operational processes.
  • Follow established safety and environmental policies, procedures, and methods applicable to the work area.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Bachelor's degree (BA) in EHS or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in EHS
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong working knowledge of EHS regulations
  • Experience in Ergonomics and Behavior Based Safety, preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with the ability to understand electronic processing.
  • Ability to adapt to changing tasks and work assignments in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to analyze situations critically and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to work, train, and develop verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to be innovative and embrace Lean enterprises principles and practices.
  • Ability to in ensure the safety of employees and the environment while meeting the needs of production.
  • Ability to plan and implement EHS programs.
  • Ability to travel and work outside of the office.
  • Ability to work independent and work effectively with management as well as with associates from the floor.

Skills:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts in English.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Tagalog, preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for detailed work over extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a focus on accuracy and efficiency for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to safely work on the manufacturing floor and operate or be around heavy machinery.
  • Ability to wear required PPE.

SALARY INFORMATION:

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: $77,259 annually - $128,908 annually.
