Internship will run approximately through mid-September - prefer local candidates attending local universities in the greater Seattle, WA area

POSITION SUMMARY
The Downstream Process Development Student Intern will support a team of scientists in developing production processes for therapeutic biologics in preclinical and clinical stages. The intern's primary focus will be learning to operate AKTA purification systems and Unicorn software, and conducting a Protein A resin cycling study to evaluate resin longevity and the effects of cleaning additives on resin performance (e.g., binding capacity, pressure, and visual characteristics).
Additional responsibilities may include assisting with general laboratory operations and completing a designated set of training documents. This role is highly collaborative, involving close interaction with teams in upstream processing, bioanalytics, analytical development, and formulation development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Assist with chromatography, harvest, and formulation (UF/DF) operations
* Support downstream group with equipment maintenance, buffer preparation, inventory organization
* Assist in design and execution of purification screening, scouting and characterization experiments
* Support team in purification of biologic protein lots from micro-scale to pilot-scale to support upstream and downstream studies
* Present information and actively participate in discussions on laboratory practices, experimental execution and results
* Communicate and collaborate with team members and other functional areas
* Perform downstream laboratory tasks as described above following operating procedures and general laboratory safety guidelines. Biohazardous and hazardous materials are used in the laboratory
* Correctly document work performed, analyze and communicate results
* Assists with organization of laboratory and inventories
* Procure equipment and maintain Lab supplies

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
* Enrolled towards a BS or equivalent degree in the sciences.
* Completed introductory Biology and/or Chemistry coursework
* Some laboratory experience or basic understanding of laboratory principles and techniques
* Strong communication and collaboration skills
* Attention to detail
* Enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
* Practical experience in a laboratory environment
* Experience purifying proteins using column chromatography
* Practical chemistry knowledge including buffer chemistry
* Familiarity with principles of chromatography
* Familiarity with JMP statistical software

TRAVEL:
* Willingness/Ability to travel up to 2% domestically.
