Position Summary
The Alternatives Portfolio Specialist will be based in TCW's New York office. This individual will represent the portfolio management team to consultants, clients, and prospects to help facilitate the growth of TCW Alternatives' assets under management. The key objective of the Portfolio Specialist is to provide leverage to senior investment professionals with client engagements and partner with TCW's client service, sales and marketing teams to share our investment and market views.
Essential Duties
Develop a deep understanding of the full range of TCW's alternatives strategies and investment structures.
- Understand how TCW's alternatives product offerings fit in the competitive landscape and how they can be best positioned to benefit clients and grow assets under management.
- Clearly and effectively communicate TCW's investing philosophy, process, approach, and competitive advantages to internal and external stakeholders through a range of formal and informal channels including written pieces, emails, podcasts, in person meetings, calls, etc.
- Perform competitor and peer group analysis and contribute to strategic initiatives and product development.
- Thorough understanding of various product structures and participation in product development.
- Provide investment expertise in support of the sales & marketing team on product offerings and investment strategy, including presenting at client meetings as requested; contribute to the overall growth of firm assets.
- Provide clients, prospects, consultants, and/or intermediaries with ongoing updates about the team's investment philosophy, process, products, capabilities, and performance; act as the point of contact for TCW's sales & marketing team on all things Alts related.
- Collaborate with TCW's Product Services team by reviewing and contributing to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and annual and quarterly client reporting.
- Prepare client communications, marketing materials, and engage in regular interactions with the portfolio management team as the role will require a real time understanding of our positioning and outlook.
- Participate in investment strategy and review meetings and contribute to the improvement of the investment process.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience with a deep understanding of the asset management business
- Comprehensive knowledge of distribution channels, including institutional, high-net-worth, and wealth management.
- Expertise in alternatives markets specifically with strong marketing/sales skills
- Prior experience as a product specialist, portfolio manager, or analyst
- Ability to acquire thorough knowledge of the legal, accounting, compliance, and investment aspects of TCW's investment products
- A proven ability to interact directly with clients and asset manager investment teams
- Superior communication/presentation skills (both written and verbal) with an aptitude for explaining technical and thematic concepts clearly and simply to key internal and external stakeholders
- Highly resourceful with the ability to exercise superior judgement regarding investor requests
- Experience presenting in both small and large group settings, including investment committees and at conferences
- Bring a strong network of client and consultant relationships with a focus on alternatives strategies
- Sales experience a plus

Desired Qualifications
Estimated Compensation: Base Salary: For NY based position, the base salary range is $225k-$275k. This represents base salary range only.
