Job Description |
The
Lecturer/Director of Field Education is responsible for teaching and administration of the Department of Social Work's field education program for
BSW and
MSW students at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. This a 12-month non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer.
The Lecturer/Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of field courses and curriculum, collaborates with current and potential field practicum sites and human services communities, and interacts with other social work programs regarding regional and national field education standards and policies. The Lecturer/Director assures appropriate educational processes are implemented to support student learning and students' emerging professional development. The Lecturer/Director leads efforts to recruit, develop, and provide ongoing support to field supervisors and field site organizations. The Lecturer/Director of Field Education ensures Council of Social Work Education standards for field education are upheld.
Teaching- 50%
- Teaches a 2/2/1 course load in fall/spring/summer, receiving a minimum of a 50% teaching release per Council on Social Work Education standards;
- Serves as lead instructor for all field education classes, ensuring curriculum is current across all field courses and reflects up-to-date CSWE standards;
- Provides ongoing instructional support for all faculty and adjunct faculty teaching field education courses;
- Consults with department chair on teaching assignments for adjunct faculty;
- Teaching load may be adjusted based on student enrollment and field program administration needs.
Service- 10%
- Schedules and Chairs the Field Committee with monthly meetings throughout the year;
- Serves on the Department of Social Work Leadership Committee;
- Represents field education on the BSW and MSW curriculum committees;
- Provides reports at monthly department meetings;
- Represents BSW and MSW field education at UNCP by maintaining and building positive relationships with UNCP students, faculty and staff, constituents, and the broader community;
- Networks with human service community; attend community meetings, serve on boards and task forces to maintain and strengthen presence of social work field education;
- Participates in College of Health Science/ UNCP service or governance opportunities;
Administration- 40%
Field Program
- Provides oversight and support for field placement faculty/staff;
- Schedules and facilitates separate orientations and educational seminars for 1) field students, 2) field supervisors and task instructors, 3) field seminar instructors, and 4) field external supervisors each semester;
- Oversees the field education database, ensuring records are kept up-do-date continuously;
- Maintains current data regarding the status and number of students in field, reporting updates at each department faculty meeting;
- Maintains monthly data of all site visits conducted by field seminar instructor, reporting updates at each department faculty meeting;
- Ensures the consistent monitoring of all records of students in field;
- Organizes the collection of and analyzes all outcome assessment data to include final field evaluations and surveys each semester, providing bi-annual reports to the Field Committee, BSW and MSW program directors, and department faculty;
- Updates field policy and procedures based on evaluation data, faculty and student input, and department approval;
- Revises the field manual, field manual appendices, and field syllabi annually, with faculty and student input and departmental approval;
- Updates the UNCP Department of Social Work Field Education website with field information;
- Trains and consults with all field seminar instructors and external field supervisors at least twice per semester;
- Collaborates with faculty on CSWE self-study and site visit preparation as it relates to field education;
- Organizes and implements Department of Social Work Exhibition events each fall and spring semester.
Field Students
- Oversees all communication about field education requirements and processes to the student body and faculty utilizing department listservs;
- Provides oversight and ensures the completion of the field application process and finalization of placements according to department field timelines and benchmarks each semester;
- Reviews employment-based field applications for approval;
- Responds to conflicts/problems that arise between students, field supervisors and/or field seminar instructors that cannot be resolved after consultation between the Assistant Field Director, field seminar instructor, and assigned field/ task supervisor/instructor, reporting to the Department Chair as needed;
- Reviews all requests for and approves changes in field placements only when necessary and in consultation with the student, field seminar instructor, field supervisor, and other involved parties as needed;
- Oversees the placement process for all BSW/MSW students and facilitates the placement process during the summer months for assigned BSW/MSW students without placements by the end of the academic year.
- Ensures at least 90% of all field applications submitted by the deadline and assigned to caseload are processed with confirmed placements prior to the end of each semester;
- Ensures at least 90% of assigned field students have received approval to start field placements during the first week of the next semester following completion of mandatory orientation prior to the end of each semester;
- Oversees the coordination and placement of student assignment to external field supervisors;
- Responds to calls and emails from students and field supervisors within 1-2 business days.
Field Agencies
- Recruits, assesses, and meets with new agencies as potential field sites regionally and statewide;
- Manages partnership agreement processes with new and existing sites;
- Communicates with all field supervisors, task instructors, and external supervisors regarding program updates, needs and events;
- Works collaboratively with and monitors internships within field agencies to assure compliance with program and field competencies, policies and procedures;
This position requires 40-hours per week in the Department of Social Work. Performs other duties as directed by the Chair.
