JOB PURPOSE:

The Housing Navigator provides a variety of activities to assist eligible participants in moving from homelessness to permanent housing. Work involves orienting participants to the appropriate program and providing housing search assistance, individualized tenant education, supportive services to promote participant's self-sufficiency, integration into the community and permanency in housing. Developing mutually beneficial relationships with landlords and/or property management teams throughout the community to promote permanent housing opportunities for participants experiencing homelessness.


Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Develop effective, trusting relationships with participants by utilizing a trauma informed care and strength-based approach. Model positive interactions, verbal guidance, and effective communication.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive outreach/working relationship with landlords, property management teams, and community partners on the participant's behalf to develop workable plans to obtain and/or maintain housing. Maintain awareness of changes in market and community processes that can impact services; bring forward prospective recommendations to deal with expected changes.
  • Assist participants in locating and securing housing of their choice. Provide mediation and advocacy with property management/landlords on the participant's behalf to resolve potential obstacles to obtaining and maintaining permanent housing.
  • Provide individualized tenant education for successful tenancy, including but not limited to: educating participants of their tenant rights and responsibilities, understanding leases, effective communication with property management and neighbors, demonstrating proper home maintenance and management techniques, and understanding housing barriers to determine housing needs and services.
  • Maintain/obtain accurate documentation for proper housing program enrollment. Ensure all data is accurately entered into the HMIS system in a timely manner following stated HMIS guidelines. Ensure submission of comprehensive participant files, complete weekly documentation, update charts as needed, and prepare necessary incident reports.
  • May carry a caseload as determined by the Lead Case Manager; other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate Exceptional customer service, in Everything you do, by placing the child, family, Veteran or client firstto supportour mission to "Empower people to build better lives for themselves, their families, and their communities."



ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related field.

EXPERIENCE: Preferred: 1 + years of experience in social service agency. 1+ years in customer service focused environment. Experience with mental health and/or a homeless population is a plus.

ATTENDANCE: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined in the employer's sole discretion.

LICENSES: Driver's License with clear record.

VEHICLE: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice.

OTHER: Must be available and willing to travel to various locations and with such frequency as the business need dictates. Must not pose a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to the safety or health of himself/herself or others.
