Position Summary

Graduate Studies seeks to hire a Sr. Academic Advisor to serve and support graduate student degree completion. The Sr. Academic Advisor's primary role is to provide direct review and verification of graduate student program of study submissions for traditional master's programs, shared credit master's programs, and graduate certificate programs. The successful candidate will work closely with other staff supporting graduate students and be part of the program advancement and completion team in Graduate Studies. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, have excellent customer service skills, and pay attention to detail.

Graduate Studies is the central academic administrative unit for graduate education at the University of New Mexico. We work in partnerships with academic departments and administrative units across campus to promote the quality of our graduate programs, enhance student success, and ensure broad access to graduate education. Graduate Studies provides a variety of student support services, financial assistance, and program support for graduate programs across the university. The selected candidate will be advising faculty, staff, and students from across the university on the submission of academic forms while enforcing policy governing graduate education.

Duties include:

Provide consultation, guidance, and advisement to students and departments about the submission of documentation required for completion of a master's level degree.

Process, verify, and approve the academic documentation for completion of a master's level degree.

Provide consultation, guidance, and advisement to students and departments about the submission of documentation required for a graduate certificate.

Process, verify, and approve the academic documentation for completion of graduate certificates.

Connects students to resources and services that support individual student success.

Conditions of Employment
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

Possess knowledge of the UNM campus, graduate programs, and
websites.
Professional ability in a higher education setting analyzing
and solving problems using independent judgement and analyzing and interpreting
student transcripts.
Experience with graduate education documents: Program of
Studies, University Catalog, etc.
Previous Banner experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Be dependable, professional, and can promote graduate
student success.
Be customer-focused and committed to delivering a positive
customer experience.
