Job Summary: The Sr Director of Business Development plays a pivotal leadership role in shaping and executing strategic growth initiatives across the business unit. This position partners with senior leadership to define long-term objectives, translate business strategy into actionable plans, and ensure operational excellence in business development activities. The role is accountable for driving high-impact outcomes that influence multiple departments and contribute to the broader organizational strategy.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Execution

  • Collaborates with BU and executive leadership to define and cascade strategic business development goals aligned with Corporate and BU objectives.
  • Leads the development and implementation of strategic plans that support business unit growth, including market expansion, product positioning, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Oversees the creation and execution of strategic business plans, ensuring alignment with budgetary and operational targets.

Complexity and Problem Solving

  • Tackles complex, ambiguous challenges where standard solutions may not apply, requiring innovative thinking and cross-functional coordination to execute overall strategy, create new markets and adjacencies.
  • Translates business strategy into initiatives and goals to guide teams through execution while managing risk and uncertainty.
  • Establishes evaluation criteria and methodologies for assessing new markets, technologies, and partnerships.

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Directs the research and analysis of business opportunities, assessing potential and development of opportunities through a team of Directors and Managers.
  • Provides mentorship and performance oversight, ensuring team alignment with strategic goals and fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of team performance against strategic and operational goals and benchmarks.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engages with senior executives, government agencies, and key commercial partners to negotiate and influence decisions of strategic and financial importance.
  • Reconciles diverse stakeholder perspectives to drive consensus and deliver business results.
  • Acts as a key liaison between business development and other functional areas, ensuring integrated execution of growth initiatives.

Discretion and Organizational Impact

  • Makes high-stakes decisions that shape the direction of the business unit and influence long-term success (3-5 years horizon).
  • Identifies and evaluates strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and licensing opportunities that align with BU growth objectives.
  • Exercises substantial discretion in resource allocation, investment prioritization, and market engagement strategies.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, or a related field, and/or the combined equivalent of experience and education; Master's degree (MBA) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in business development, including leadership roles with cross-functional oversight.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex business environments, particularly in defense, government, or technology sectors.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, influence senior stakeholders, and drive strategic initiatives to completion.
  • Advanced analytical and interpersonal skills, with experience navigating sensitive and high-impact negotiations.
  • Must be a US citizen, eligible for DoD security clearance.

Cubic Pay Range:

$190,000.00 - $240,000.00 + benefits.

The Cubic pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
