The Part-Time Esports Program Coordinator will play a key role in managing and supporting James Madison University's Esports program, which serves approximately 50-100 competitive student players. This position is responsible for coordinating seasonal competition, managing team logistics, maintaining a supportive and inclusive environment, and overseeing operations in the Esports Arena. Duties and Responsibilities: The Esports Program Coordinator reports to JMU Director of Esports or JMU X-Labs Executive Director when Director of Esports is unavailable.
Responsibilities include: * Register teams for appropriate Esports leagues and ensure compliance with all league rules and deadlines * Coordinate player tryouts, monitor eligibility, and manage official team rosters * Oversee matchday operations, including being present for all official games, Monday through Friday evenings during the season * Supervise use of the Esports Arena, ensuring equipment readiness and technical functionality * Maintain the Arena's cleanliness, organization, and scheduling for practices, matches, and events * Troubleshoot hardware/software issues in collaboration with campus IT support * Track and compile player data, match results, participation stats, and program metrics * Communicate regularly with players, captains, and X-Labs leadership * Foster a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented culture among student participants * Support leadership development among student captains, establish weekly meetings with student captains * Promote good sportsmanship, wellness, and academic balance within the Esports community * Coordinate all aspects of team travel plans for tournament trips including budget Qualifications: * Prior experience or student leadership in collegiate Esports * Knowledge of competitive Esports titles, leagues, and operations (e.g., Valorant, Rocket League, League of Legends, Overwatch, etc.) * Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills * Ability to work evenings 5pm-10pm Monday through Friday and weekends during competition seasons, including travel to on-site invitationals and competitions * Experience with team coordination, event planning, or esports administration * Basic IT troubleshooting skills and familiarity with gaming hardware/software * Familiarity with esports broadcasting, social media management, and Discord administration * Adaptability in a fast-paced environment * Ability to work with people of varying skill levels * Attention to detail * Strong organizational capabilities * Evidence of demonstrated commitment and contributions to Inclusive Excellence * Commitment to the values espoused by JMU X-Labs Additional Posting Information: Conditions of Employment: Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
This position is for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a part-time wage position working approximately 25 hours per week starting in mid-July 2025 through May 2026 with no benefits. Not to exceed 1000 hours per year.
