The Institute for Compensation Studies (ICS) at Cornell University School of Industrial has an opening for short-term part-time Temporary Extension Support Specialist, this position will work up to 16 hours per week, hours may vary any given week.

This position will assist with a comprehensive evaluation of executive compensation practices in the hospital and healthcare sector sponsored by the American Hospital Association.

The specialist will be part of an interdisciplinary project team comprised of Cornell faculty and executive compensation consultants. The overall project aims to understand the factors determining executive pay and to explore how pay practices differ across the for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare sectors.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supporting an information gathering process to provide evidence-based guidance for setting and evaluating executive pay in the healthcare sector including gathering and synthesizing relevant published information.
  • Working with an advisory group of current and former executives and consultants.
  • Helping to identify key trends and gaps in executive compensation practices within the healthcare sector.
  • Working closely with ICS faculty, external researchers and project sponsor contributing to collaborative discussions, and participating in producing a final technical report.
  • Working closely with ICS academic director to write proposals seeking research funding to extend the work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 to 4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Experience gathering and synthesizing information from diverse sources
  • Proficiency using academic databases (e.g., JSTOR, PubMed, Google Scholar) and library resources
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly summarize complex research findings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination
  • Strong understanding of healthcare economics, executive compensation structures, and organizational performance metrics

This is a part-time temporary, non-academic staff, limited benefits eligible opportunity. Position is located in Ithaca, NY, within the ILR School on the campus of Cornell University. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

Rate: $33.00 / hour

No relocation assistance or visa sponsorship provided for this position.
