Position Summary
This position configures, installs, and supports routing equipment for campus; network fault management- Including routing, switching, and all other network related problems (this includes coordination of syslog problem resolution); configures, installs, and supports switching equipment for campus; configures, installs, and supports T-1 circuits and related equipment; provides assistance to manager for special projects as needed; responsible for maintaining internal procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities
Configures, installs, and supports routing and switching equipment for UGA campus.

  • Know all aspects of routing and switching to support the campus network.
  • Maintain, configure, and install routers, including IOS upgrades.
  • Provides problem determination and resolution for the campus switching gear.
  • - Serve as one of the NSP's technicians for network support.
  • Responsible for maintaining the lab environment for new network implementations and network troubleshooting.
  • Design network topologies/solutions for various network implementations, including remote sites.
  • Provide technical oversight/review of fellow team members' router/switch configurations.
  • Oversees the design activities for NSP-level network projects. Approves network design plans.
  • Oversees the NOC processes for the evaluation of new technologies.
  • Makes technical recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Provide engineering and support for the routing infrastructure of the University network.
  • Assist with maintaining AT&T Ciena circuits for remote USG locations.
  • Support Physical Access Control and Video Security System

Duties/Responsibilities
Network fault management

  • Team lead for troubleshooting data networks for main campus and remote sites. This including switching, routing and physical cabling.
  • Must be able to establish the correct priority for the reported network faults, document fully the communications pathway involved, make any necessary changes, and document the solution.
  • Determines and initiates appropriate and immediate actions needed to restore normal services with minimal down time.
  • Approves and tests methods and plans used to certify complex networking projects to required installation design standards.
  • Collaborates with project leaders and executive staff to develop work plan and time schedules for projects including outlining phases, identifying personnel, and computing equipment requirements.
  • Monitor and schedule network router and switch firmware code upgrades.
  • Perform packet capturing and analysis for network issues.
  • Perform more indept technical level troubleshooting for network issues.
  • Perform research for solutions to mitigate network issues.
  • Responsible for Data Center cabling & design.

Planning and Documentation

  • Provide detailed planning for assigned tasks, to include work breakdowns, timelines, and risk assessment.
  • Provide detailed network documentation and diagrams for proposed, altered, and existing network paths.
  • Prepares documentation for inventory and maintenance of NOC equipment on the main campus and remote sites.
  • Responsible for documenting NSP building floor plan layouts.
  • Responsible for mapping out network topologies by creating VISIO diagrams of mapped out network topologies.
  • Create configuration guides for fellow team members.
  • Responsible for creating troubleshooting guides for fellow team members.
  • Provide technical mentoring to fellow team members.
  • Responsible for documentation for showing which routers are under maintenance, the terms of the agreement, and explain the procedure for contacting the appropriate parties when maintenance is required.

  • Responsible for monitoring the Team Dynamix ticketing system and responding to outages.
  • Serve as team leader or project manager for NSP projects.
  • Supports EITS Helpdesk operations as needed.
  • Supports EITS Network Engineering (NE) as needed.
  • Supports EITS Telephone Services as needed.
  • Performs all duties of Network Administrator Specialist.
  • Performs related work as required.
