Position Summary

TheDallas CollegeFacilitiesManagementDepartment supports the facility needs forDallas Collegewhile providing responsible stewardship and efficient operation of theCollege's physical assets.The Facilities Management Department is responsible forapproximately 5,500,000 sq.ft.of physical space and over 1400 acres of land, located across multiple locations in Dallas County.The position of Senior Automotive Mechanic supports thiseffortthrough the performance of advanced skilled craftwork in theautomotive trade.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced Knowledge of preventativemaintenance and repairs to gasoline anddiesel-powered vehicles such as, tractors, mowers,forklifts,and grounds maintenance equipment tomaintainequipment and vehicles to good and dependable operational condition.

  • Experience usingautomotive equipment such as tire machines,wheel balancersand automotive scanners.

  • Advanced knowledge of conducting maintenance procedures and repairing automotive and small engines.Knowledge of small, large, gasoline, electrical engine operation and repair

  • Able to recognize andobserveall safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.

  • Demonstratedthe abilityto make decisions under the pressure of continuing production.

  • Musthave strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written andprovideexceptional customer service to Dallas College employees.

  • Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance tasks for motor vehicles.

  • Ability to analyze information andevaluateresults to choose the best solution and solve problems.

  • The abilitytoutilizecomputer technology to access data and communicate with others.

  • Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve vehicle electrical issues.

  • Ability to utilize a computerized maintenance management system to document daily work orders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures the highest quality of vehicle maintenance work across all Dallas College locations.

  • Direct assigned automotive mechanics in the maintenance of batteries, radiators, drive belts, steering boxes, filters, brakes, transmissions, rear axles, tires, lights, mirrors, air conditioning parts, and exhaust systems.

  • Assists Fleet Manager in logistics of college fleet. Work with otherFacilities Management teammatesto ensure the highest level of customer service and assist other Facilities Management teams as required.

  • Will require travel within Dallas County utilizing College vehicles and trailers.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending over,stooping, twisting, talking, hearing, climbing ladders, using stairs, reaching overhead, crouching,kneeling,or crawling. Pushing or pulling 10-50lbs., lifting 10-80lbs., carrying 10-50lbs., repetitive use of arms and legs, driving, balancing, manual dexterity-fine manipulation or grasping.May require working in adverse weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma plus 10 years of automotive mechanical experience.

  • ASE certification preferred.

  • State Vehicle inspector license or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

  • Valid Texas driver's license.

  • Bilingual preferred.
