Position Summary: Under the direction of the Fitness Manager, Group Fitness Instructors will provide state-of-the-art group exercise instruction that contributes to each member's health and fitness goals. Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and instruct exercise classes for all fitness and skill levels.
- Instruct with sound principles in the area of fitness.
- Ability to teach beginners through advanced learners in the fitness programs.
- Provide individual and group guidelines for development in fitness programs.
- Critique and give feedback to participants regarding their work and performance level.
- Ability to develop, implement and evaluate group exercise programs according to desired outcomes and goals.
- Maintain an open communication with the Fitness Manager in regard to class development and scheduling.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude with students of all ages, patrons, customers, staff, and upper management.
- Ensure that any classroom changes or modifications are communicated to all classroom participants in an efficient manner.
- Carry out program evaluations as directed.
- Implement safety measure for group exercise classes to insure the health and safety of group exercise participants.
- Work with the Fitness Manager and personal trainers in the development of health and wellness program health and safety policies and procedures. This will include the development and overseeing of risk assessments for programs and program areas.
- Adhere to all Safe from Harm Policies and Procedures as established by The Salvation Army.
- Ensure compliance/adherence with all the safety standards and precautions by all class members.
- Maintain a safe working environment; report all harmful problems with facilities to proper supervisor.
- Generate legible and accurate accident and incident reports as required and immediately rectify or notify appropriate personnel of all accidents or potentially unsafe conditions.
Qualifications: Education/Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs preferred.
- Youth and adult certified boxing instructor preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. The ability to speak Spanish desired.
- Must have physical ability to instruct appropriate classes; for specific class requirements as outlined by industry standards of certifications and or training including but not limited to, yoga, kickboxing, cycling, weight training, aquatics, etc. These physical requirements include but are not limited to, bending, lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 40 lbs., rhythmic limbering, held isometric poses, kicks, punches, stretching, choreographed movement and calisthenics, etc.
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
- Working Knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
Certificates and Licenses:
- Current certifications through ACE, ACSM, AFAA or NSCA or any unique certifications pertaining to a specialized group exercise class and/or format.
- Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or obtain within 45 days
- Complete Safe From Harm Training, and keep current as needed
