SUMMARY Operates high pressure / high temperature computer programmed autoclave equipment to remove ceramic core material from various metal castings to produce castings free of obstructions or residual core material in all internal passages. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reads and interprets engineering instructions and recipe listings to achieve desired result of core removal. Loads castings in correct position in parts baskets and fixtures, ensuring maximum load capacity is not exceeded. Positions drums of caustic potash (potassium hydroxide) inside autoclave chambers or uses bulk delivery systems to fill vessels to correct level. Secures lids on autoclave vessels and ensures all safety locking devices are properly positioned and operating correctly Selects correct operating recipe according to engineering specification and starts program cycle from remote computer terminal. Monitors various data screens on computer throughout program cycle to verify correct operation. Opens vessel lid when verified safe to do so. Unloads castings from autoclave baskets and visually verifies that core material has been removed. Performs various rinse operations including using water flow fixtures, ultrasonics and/or high-pressure hot water spray. Verifies routers are correctly signed for autoclave operation and assigns a unique batch number to every completed cycle. Delivers completed paperwork, historical data charts, and test pieces to materials control lab for release. Operates pneumatic hand held tools and bench mounted power tools: such as die grinders and drill presses: to remove excess metal core flash prior to loading castings for core removal. Performs routine scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on autoclave vessels and associated equipment as needed, including lubrication, filter changes, and o-ring seal changes. Utilizes hand truck and/or operates fork lift truck as needed for internal transfer of hazardous materials to different locations within the Chromalloy facility. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school education or equivalent life experience and minimum six months experience or training in a production manufacturing environment. Previous experience or training in chemical handling in an industrial setting is also preferable. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability communicate in English to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group situations with customers, engineers, supervision and other employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to draw/interpret bar graphs. Ability to read and interpret line graphs and a comprehension of the relationship between temperature and pressure using the Fahrenheit scale and pounds per square inch (PSI) respectively REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to effectively solve common equipment or process related problems involving several variables in standardized situations. OTHER Is trained in the requirements of loading, labeling, transferring and moving hazardous materials in accordance with RCRA regulations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and is regularly exposed to caustic and other hazardous chemicals. The environment the employee works in is frequently hot, wet and humid. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional exposure to loud noise. OTHER JOB DUTIES, CONDITIONS, QUALIFICATIONS, OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS In order to perform the duties of this position, employees are required to wear safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety eyewear, hand protection, chemical resistant suits, hoods, gloves, and boots and safety toed shoes. Other related and non-related duties may be assigned within the department as deemed appropriate by the department supervisor or his/her designee.
