HVAC Lead

Milwaukee County Facilities Management

Pay Range: 52.74

Job Summary: Under general direction of HVAC Supervisor, acts Lead staff member, responsible for complex repairs and corrective HVAC system service. Oversees and champions continuous improvement for Facilities Management Division-Building Automation Services (FMD BAS). Works closely with HVAC team members and across other trades and departments, including Electrician, Carpenter, Painter, Plumber, Locksmith. Works in all Milwaukee County facilities including secured detention facilities and in secure working areas with sensitive information and assets.

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Oversee repairs and installations of HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, boilers, water cooling towers, forced air converter units, pumps and gas systems.
  • Oversee repairs and replacements of defective parts on HVAC equipment and their controls, including but not limited to thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, and compressors. Oversee new system installations, responsible for major repairs and replacements of defective parts on complex system components.
  • Conduct regular operational reviews of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, including boilers and gas and electrically operated air conditioning equipment.
  • Oversee the operation of pneumatic control systems. Interface with building HVAC systems, and mentor HVAC shop team on operation of HVAC systems.
  • Interface with work order system. Complete requisitions and order materials to perform work duties. Keep accurate records to facilitate/document timely response to corrective maintenance needs and service requests.
  • During HVAC Supervisor's absence (during scheduled vacation, holiday, or personal leave, for example) shares responsibility with PM Lead for oversight of the HVAC team's day-to-day operations to ensure smooth functioning of all department HVAC assets and control systems; this responsibility does not extend to HR-related matters.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:



  • High school diploma/GED equivalent required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Intermediate knowledge of CMMS software.
  • Successful completion from a state or federal recognized steamfitter or HVAC apprenticeship.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as Journeyman level HVAC or steamfitter tradesman.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in HVAC system construction, repair and replacement.
  • Five (5) or more years of supervisory experience scheduling staff and monitoring work progress.


License:



  • Completion certificate from either a State or Federal recognized steamfitter or HVAC apprenticeship - Required
  • ASOPE Boiler Operator's License within 1 year of hire


NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
