Qualifications

The Medical Records Clerk must be able to:

  • assemble charts upon discharge by ensuring notes are filed in date order, ensuring all notes are signed, and ensuring all required documents are in the record.
  • communicate effectively, orally and written, with staff and physicians in a professional and cooperative manner regarding the process of release of confidential information and incomplete medical records.
  • demonstrate ability to utilize various computer programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • accurately file documents into individual medical records
  • accurately file medical records within the terminal-digit system.
  • assist with general medical records department functions including purging of records, loose filing, etc.
  • demonstrate a professional attitude and support the objectives of the hospital and guest relations philosophy through internal and external communication and interaction with all levels of staff, patient family members, guests, community, and referral sources.
  • carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • perform all other duties as assigned by the Director or designee.

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Record Technology highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting is preferred. 1-3 years of experience specifically in Medical Records preferred.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills.
  • Must love to file!
  • Requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team without continuous supervision.
