Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools seeks exceptional Central Services Teacher - Itinerant Teacher for Deaf & Hard of Hearing candidates who are highly qualified and knowledgeable to join our community of teachers, learners, and leaders.

Central Services Teacher provides special education services to students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing enrolled in Milwaukee Public Schools. Responsible for implementing services based on individual students' IEPs

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

The position requires a current license in Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing #805.

Experience Requirements:

This position requires at least five (5) years of fully licensed teaching experience in deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a broad knowledge of all facets related to deaf and hard-of-hearing. Uses research-proven practices to improve student achievement.
  • Incorporates the learning targets and the goals of the district as approved by the Board of School Directors. Implements Board policies as necessary to improve the educational environment.
  • Assists special education and regular education teachers in providing quality and comprehensive programming for students with hearing impairments.
  • Interprets students' audiological information and the impact that a hearing loss has on students access to auditory information.
  • Assists regular education teachers in understanding the needs and learning characteristics of students with hearing impairments.
  • Assists in making environmental adjustments in the school.
  • Provides assistance to school personnel regarding curriculum and activities of the classroom that, as a direct result of the students hearing impairment, require adaptation or reinforcement for the student.
  • Provides instruction in expanded core curricular areas for students with a hearing impairment.
  • Shares responsibility for development and implementation of the IEP, ongoing assessment, and program planning.
  • Shares resources and educational information with parents concerning students with a hearing impairment.
  • Maintains contact with other district and agency personnel, such as sign language interpreters, audiologists, and career/vocational education staff.
  • Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

General office environment; must be able to handle light lifting and frequent standing and bending.

This position will be on the 191-day teacher calendar. Salary Range: $52,827.70 - 98,937.66

Placement on the salary schedule is based on years of fully licensed teaching/pupil services experience in a K-12 setting and education beyond a bachelor's degree.
