Job Description

Purpose

To maintain and control proper inventory levels for machine parts and plant supplies. Identify a wide variety of mechanical and electrical machine parts in order to purchase replacements, determine proper stock levels, and select preferred supplier. Communicate with external service companies to coordinate machined components and equipment. The Parts Room Associate will work Monday-Friday from 7A-3P.

Duties

  • Awareness of and adherence to all Corporate and Site Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
  • Inventory & order all necessary machine and equipment parts in order to maintain manufacturing operations and minimize machine downtime. Works with parts or service vendors on delivery scheduling to meet the level of urgency.
  • Contacts and works with outside vendors when special or replacements for obsolete parts are needed.
  • Works with Maintenance personnel during machine breakdowns to provide efficient part identification and purchase if needed.
  • Records daily parts withdrawals into the computer database.
  • Marks, identifies, and locates high capital items: dies, screws, machine rolls in a manner to minimize possibility of loss.
  • Assures all new parts are entered into Parts database with accurate, complete, and detailed information.
  • Maintains a system on all spare parts which provides part identification, receivers by date, distributions by date, desired minimum-maximum inventory levels, etc.
  • Identifies problem areas in inventory control and brings them to the attention of the Engineering & Maintenance Manager with a recommendation for solution.
  • Maintains a locator system for all spare parts that will assure efficient handling and ease of location for each item.
  • Performs duties of the Maintenance Planner when necessary during vacations.
  • Assists vendors in unloading large parts at points of delivery.
  • Receives in all MRO parts deliveries for the plant Manages vendor managed inventories (VMI) program Performs regular store room cycle counts.
  • Assembles parts kits for preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Manages employee vending program.
  • Expedites parts to the necessary location when breakdowns dictate. This may involve driving to other plant locations or vender locations to procure the required items. This may happen in an after normal hours situation get down equipment on line.

  • Good organizational skills and administrative skills Must have the ability to work with and interact effectively and professionally with co-workers in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of machine equipment, components and terminology is desirable
  • Experience with SAP is a plus

What we want from you

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • One to two years of manufacturing production experience.
  • Familiarity with inventory control system is strongly preferred

Responsibility

Assets & Operations - Responsible for maintenance of the capital investment in spare parts and supplies for the plant. Must also identify those parts that are not stocked and determine proper part name, desired stock levels and preferred vendor.

Records & Reports - Responsible for the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all records initiated in the spare parts organization. Failure to maintain proper levels would result in greater downtime of manufacturing machines and higher production costs.

Physical Requirements

This position requires daily lifting and moving of received parts (can be up to 40 lbs). The job does require forklift operation to move heavy parts and equipment. Approximately 80% of the work performed in this position will be done standing.

Forklift operation is required and will be necessary weekly.
