Job Responsibilities
- Oversee safety, health and environmental issues at assigned North American manufacturing locations as well as the implementation of corporate policies and programs at those facilities
- Maintain expertise on and track compliance with federal OSHA, EPA, analogous state and local permits, regulations, laws, and with Koppers policies
- Drive and assist with plant permitting processes pertaining to permit application, issuance, modification, renewal and termination as appropriate
- Manage development and implementation of programs, policies, audits and initiatives in the field of safety and environmental to achieve a culture of Zero Harm
- Coordinate with legal counsel on responses to regulatory agencies and participate in agency negotiations as appropriate
- Develop and provide training to plant level Zero Harm coordinators to improve understanding of Koppers Zero Harm culture and applicable safety, health and environmental regulations
- Develop and maintain proficient knowledge of FOCUS providing relevant information and training needed by facility personnel and management.
- Review, analyze and trend incidents, agency inspections, audits/findings, tasks, hazard identifications and other Zero Harm related communications within FOCUS.
- Assist with identification, implementation and tracking of recommended Zero Harm improvements
- Participate in community interaction and emergency preparedness program development
- Manage Safety, Health and Environmental Compliance Auditing Program, assist in developing corrective action plans, conduct follow-ups, and share best practices
- Assist plants with incident classification, investigation, compliance needs and training
- Assist with industrial hygiene programs and medical monitoring as needed
- Assist with facility MoC and CAPEX processes to ensure safety, health, and environmental aspects/hazards are considered
- Participate in Koppers Sustainability Initiatives
- 30-40% travel is required for the position under normal operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science with Health and Safety, Safety Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in occupational safety and/or environmental compliance at industrial manufacturing facility
- Safety and environmental management experience with multi-plant oversight preferred
- Demonstrated strength and knowledge in multimedia environmental practice (air, water, waste)
- Comprehensive knowledge of states and federal occupational safety and environmental regulations preferred
- Certified in or be working on any of the following certifications: CHMM and/or CSP, QEP
- Ability to research problems and think creatively to develop solutions; be self-directed; think strategically; be compliance focused
- Excellent computer skills and ability to work well in both plant and corporate settings
