Position Purpose







This position coordinates the daily activities of the Respiratory Care Staff and is responsible for their needed equipment and supplies to provide efficient, high quality respiratory care. This position may function as a liaison with purchasing and vendors and will assist the Director in all levels of function and responsibilities of the department as needed.









Nature and Scope







This is a clinically focused position that is challenged to maintain a well-organized and functioning Respiratory Department that allows for the enhancement of evidenced based practice and continuity of patient care throughout the healthcare continuum. The Respiratory Supervisor coordinates care and collaborates with other professional disciplines as needed, to optimize patient outcomes.

The Respiratory Supervisor acts as a role model, resource, and coach to all Respiratory staff to provide ongoing support for professional development, maintenance of the standards of care and quality outcomes.

This position facilitates professional relationships between physicians, Respiratory Therapists, nursing and interdisciplinary teams to provide a patient focused plan of care.

This position requires leadership skills and flexibility to adjust hours to be a resource to all

shifts. The Respiratory Supervisor will be responsible for engaging the Respiratory staff to provide evidence based practice, promoting desired patient outcomes and ensuring that practice is congruent with the Renown Health Code of Ethics.

Technological advances dictate that the incumbent is well versed in procedures common to the department or unit served. In addition, proficiency in the techniques of leadership and adult learning theories are necessary to coordinate the activities of all health team members, and to maintain positively engaged, competent Respiratory staff.

Other challenges of this position include the ability to recognize dynamics of change and respond appropriately within the context of accepted current theory. Creativity and innovation is expected from

the incumbent to help staff function as a high performance work team and to promote staff retention.

This position is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and families. The Respiratory Supervisor must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department Competence with Special Populations standard. The position requires advanced clinical skills in Respiratory Care with all patients.

This position does provide direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Name



Description



Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Requires completion of an accredited Respiratory Care Practitioner Program. Bachelor degree preferred.



Experience:



Two years as an RCP in an acute care setting. Candidates with neonatal, pediatric and critical care experience will be given preference. Supervisor/Leadership experience preferred.



License(s):



Current Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) by the NBRC is required at time of hire.

Current Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Respiratory Care Practitioner License is required at time of hire.

State of Nevada Point of Care Analyst license, Director of Point of Care, or General supervisor of Point of Care required within 6 months of hire.



Certification(s):



Current AHA BLS certification required on hire. AHA ACLS, PALS, & NRP required with-in 6 months, and ongoing thereafter.



Computer / Typing:



Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
