Job Description:

This position allows you to assist customers in optimally crafting, deploying, operating, and continuously improving cost-effective solutions based on aService-Aware Operating System (SAOS) based Routing & Switching portfolio (RSP) and its associated network management platform. This is an on-customer premise technical role with a focus on facilitating customers to understand technology through "hands-on" testing for product evaluation, type approval testing, preparation of test results, and corresponding documentation. As an individual contributor - technical SME (hands-on) role, your prior experience in feature testing on L2/L3 platforms (Ciena, Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, Huawei, Adva) for establishing solution topology in a lab will allow you to prosper in the role. Your past operating knowledge of technologies essential to packet networking solutions is meaningful for your success, and being familiar with the Ciena Routing & Switching portfolio will set you apart in performing these tasks:

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Showcasing Ciena's L2/L3 capabilities in Customer or Ciena lab to assess product performance, scalability, and security, by way of demo or type-approval for solutions based on Ciena's Routing & Switching portfolio in conjunction with the network management platform ESM.
  • Developing a trusted working relationship with the customer by translating the customer's requirements into workable solutions.
  • Develop test cases, execute test cases, and produce reports.
  • Bringing observations and requirements to the R&D team for product improvement.
  • Leading the troubleshooting (collecting data and observations) and the resolution by working with R&D resources to address raised customer issues.
  • Ensuring our customer is updated regularly on all issues during the testing.
  • Supporting upgrades and installation of system hardware updates as required, as well as reconfiguration of test networks.
  • Assisting Sales Engineers in pre-sales activities, answering technical questions, or providing technical presentations.
  • Supporting deployment and post-sales support teams as the need arises.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong system validation and integration experience on L2/L3 platforms (Ciena, Cisco, Juniper), including protocols.
  • Good experience with Ciena's Routing & Switching portfolio (81xx,87xx 39xx, 51xx, and uOLT and ONU 380x platforms and associated management with ESM is preferred.
  • Good experience with Network Management platforms - (BluePlanet/MCP & FCAPS) configuration and troubleshooting is preferred.
  • Administrator-level knowledge of Linux/Solaris/RedHat is good to have.
  • Knowledge of various Customer Services and Ethernet and IP drivers and requirements (Mobile xHaul, XGSPON (Enterprise/Residential), TDM, SD-WAN, DNFVI, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Packet Networking technology, such as IPV4, IPV6, Segment Routing, MPLS-based VPNs, Interior Gateway Protocols, Exterior Gateway Protocols, Precision Time Protocol, Synchronous Ethernet, Router Management, Security, Virtualization, etc.
  • DevOps skills - basic programming/scripting, familiarity with API based provisioning and automation (XML, YAML, REST, Python, etc), including Unix/Linux skills.

Education:

BS or MS in CS/EE/CE coupled with 8+ years in the telecommunications-related industry.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
