Divisional Finance Director

Job Objective: The Divisional Finance Director is responsible for oversight of the accounting, financial and payroll functions for the KWM Division.

Essential Functions:



  • Communicates with divisional leadership, corps officers and department leadership regarding financial, budgeting and audit concerns.


  • Reviews and approves journal entries, and bank reconciliations for all units as needed.


  • Review and sign off on checks/ACH payments per established guidelines.


  • Reviews and approves support service calculations for all units.


  • Reviews monthly statements for all units in the Division.


  • Reviews payment information for all units over specified amount or as needed.


  • Prepares financial management reports on periodic and as needed basis.


  • Reviews all budgets prior to presentation to Divisional Finance Board.


  • Facilitates preparation of General Fund, City Fund, SSVF and Booth Manor departmental budgets including consolidation of individual budgets and submissions to THQ in required format.


  • Schedules and conducts internal audits in coordination with Divisional Finance Administrator and Divisional Auditor.


  • Prepares reports for management as needed.


  • Monitors the spenddown of grants from various funding sources.


  • Ensures that all accounting processes conform to GAAP and TSA accounting standards, policies and practices


  • Ensures that the chart of accounts remains in compliance with the Army's National Chart of Accounts standards.


  • Provides overall financial information needed for STEPS review and participates on corps STEPS review team as assigned.


  • Acts as liaison for Commerce Connections


  • Other duties may be assigned



Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Business administration and finance courses desirable.

Experience: Five years in the accounting field, including computer utilization and two years in payroll. Working knowledge of Word and Excel. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel & e-mail.


  • Position requires a confident, self-motivated, multi-tasked individual with integrity in the use of resources.


  • Demonstrate ability as a team-builder and able to maintain confidentiality.


  • Act in a manner consistent with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army.


  • Must be a highly organized, detail-oriented (accuracy) self-starter able to meet deadlines.


  • Strong Communication skills are necessary.


  • Willingness to promote and work in accordance with The Salvation Army's mission, vision and values, with particular regard to excellence of service.



Supervisory Responsibility: Direct supervision of Assistant Finance Director, Assistant Finance Director-Compliance, Divisional Auditor

Physical Requirements: Include good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. This position may require the ability to lift and/or move more than 15 pounds occasionally. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Driving: Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment. Full-time position; may require some weekend and evening work.
