- Custom Cable & Harness Fabrication
- Build and route custom wire harnesses and high-current cables based on schematics and assembly drawings.
- Ensure proper shielding, grounding, and safe termination practices for high-voltage and high-current assemblies.
- AC/DC Power Module Assembly
- Assemble and test AC-to-DC converter modules and power distribution units.
- Interpret wiring diagrams and BOMs to support efficient, high-quality builds.
Power Electronics Proficiency
- Work hands-on with power conversion circuits including:
- Bridge rectifiers, buck converters, boost converters, and isolated DC/DC switching supplies
- Assist in validating topologies for voltage/current regulation, efficiency, thermal performance, and protection behavior.
- Familiar with operation and troubleshooting of IGBTs, MOSFETs, drivers, transformers, inductors, and other switching components.
- Comfortable working with test conditions such as:
- Wide input voltages (e.g., 90-480VAC 3-phase or 100-1000VDC)
- Load transients, startup behavior, ripple, and fault responses
Circuit Troubleshooting & Test Support
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical layouts.
- Troubleshoot power conversion circuits using DMMs, oscilloscopes, current probes, and other diagnostic tools.
- Set up and safely operate lab equipment, including:
- Programmable DC power supplies (up to 1000V)
- 208V/480V 3-phase AC input setups
- Electronic loads, isolation transformers, and safety interlocks
Data Collection & Test Automation
- Capture and log voltage, current, thermal, and other key test data from power modules under test.
- Maintain organized records of test setups, procedures, anomalies, and results using spreadsheets and digital tools.
- Create or modify scripts (Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW) to automate repetitive test and measurement tasks.
Collaboration with Electrical Design Engineers
- Work closely with power electronics engineers to support bring-up, validation, and debug of new power hardware.
- Provide hands-on input to improve testability and manufacturability of designs.
- Participate in design reviews, test plan development, and root cause analysis.
Safe Operation in High-Energy Lab Environments
- Work confidently and safely with high voltage DC (up to 1000V) and three-phase 208/480VAC.
- Follow established safety procedures including PPE use, arc flash protocols, and LOTO where applicable.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of lab safety and reliability standards.
Skills You Bring:
- Associate's degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, or equivalent experience (10+ years accepted in lieu of degree).
- 2-5+ years of hands-on experience working with high-voltage DC, three-phase AC, and switch-mode power supplies (SMPS).
- Proficiency in:
- Reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Using DMMs, oscilloscopes, current probes, and electronic loads
- Setting up and configuring programmable power supplies
