Job Overview

Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC), University of Cincinnati, was founded in 1938 and serves more than 30 hospitals in 18 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. Annually, Hoxworth collects more than 100,000 units of blood from local donors to help save the lives of patients in area hospitals. Hoxworth Blood Center: Saving Lives Close to Home. HBC is located within the College of Medicine and is the only Regional Blood Center owned and operated by a University in United States.

The Hoxworth Blood Center, Division of Donor Services, Mobile Operations, is recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Blood Donor Recruiter position, to develop and successfully implement account and territory-specific recruitment (sales) plans in order to establish and maintain blood donor groups. This position will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence in our students, faculty, staff, and all our activities.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a public ambassador, consistently representing Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati in a professional manner, recruiting blood drive sponsors and donors to meet the needs of patients in the Tri-State area. Develop partnerships with business, schools, colleges, churches and community groups to promote blood donation at blood drives.
  • Manage assigned blood drive accounts in a defined territory; implement account-specific plans to develop, maintain and build blood drive groups. Make sales calls to establish new drive groups.
  • Achieve collection goals (individual and team) utilizing sales and detailed planning skills, exceptional account management, and timely communication with clients and colleagues.
  • Schedule blood drives for up to 500 participants, accurately project outcomes, and provide specific planning details for each event. Manage the planning process and work out detailed logistics for each blood drive. Request or create digital marketing materials, request printed marketing materials, and present requested materials to blood drive coordinator in a timely manner. Advise and coach blood drive coordinator to share blood drive details with group members/employees and ensure that coordinator has all the tools needed to host a productive and successful blood drive. Manage donor schedules for each blood drive and resolve any appointment exceptions that arise. Clearly communicate details of blood drive and special requirements with external coordinators and multiple internal departments (donor services field managers, staffing, materials management, etc.).
  • Present blood donation information to groups of high school/college students and other professional groups to motivate individuals to consider blood donation. Review eligibility guidelines and answer any questions from the group members.
  • Conduct site inspections for blood drive locations annually. Decide on suitability of each location and complete relevant "site check" documentation that can be subject to internal or external audits. Share room set-up requirements with blood drive coordinators and field managers as needed.
  • Request Certificate of Insurance (COI) documents as needed using the relevant UC legal certificate of insurance. Submit any necessary contracts required by blood drive host accounts to UC legal for review and ensure that the completed contracts are signed in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement donor recruitment and marketing strategy to increase donations at blood drives. Execute strategies to increase new donors, donor frequency and donations by specific blood types and particular blood products.
  • Actively recruit on-site as needed, encouraging donations from potential donors in order to meet daily projections. Some evenings and/or weekends will be required.
  • Complete recruiter portion of projects such as red cord program and coordinator mailings.
  • Act as back up for colleagues.
  • Utilize blood center software for maintaining account information (scheduling, managing and monitoring blood drives) as a donor recruitment tool.
  • Understand and follow all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of sales, marketing or project management experience.
