Job Family Description

Site Security personnel safeguard individuals, property, information, and assets against potential threats and unwanted access. They monitor security systems and respond promptly to security incidents. They assess security and emergency risks and implement training and preventative measures. They ensure compliance with security procedures and requirements.

Discipline Description

Nuclear material safeguard specialists analyze the performance, documentation and compliance of technical special nuclear material theft and sabotage programs for facilities containing significant quantities of nuclear and chemical materials in support of site protection planning, and compliance with regulations. They oversee the tracking, documentation, and control of nuclear materials and assets within a facility or organization. They ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, maintain accurate inventory records, and implement security measures to prevent loss or unauthorized access to nuclear materials. They perform assessments and develop physical, policy, and procedural improvements to correct identified weaknesses.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Serve as a Material Balance Area (MBA) Custodian for Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) in K Area. Primary responsibility is maintaining accountability and control of nuclear material in an operational environment. This includes performing process monitoring, reconciling nuclear material inventory data, authorizing transfers and receipts for nuclear material, and potential increasing scope as required.

Additional duties include developing and maintaining NMC&A plans, strategies, and reports for implementation of requirements in the operational environment. Also includes reviewing and approving procedures, investigations and reports originated by or pertaining to NMC&A Activities.

Support Facility and NMC&A Management in the complete operation of SRNS NNSA Missions and the varied functions within the business.

Requires in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in own field/discipline, solving complex problems with minimal guidance and oversight by assisting NMC&A Management in providing program leadership to assure facility compliance with DOE orders, Manual 14Q, facility authorization agreements, and directives through implementation of company programs and procedures. Establishes standards for performance and ensures the facility's adherence to these standards.

Ensure key projects are integrated with one another and facility operations and NMC&A organizations meet their individual objectives.

Build relationships with internal and external customers. To include NNSA and EM Operations -focused organizations, counterparts, as well as across the complex.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

We'd Also Like to See

Nuclear Material Control & Accountability experience and Local Area Nuclear Material Accounting System (LANMAS) experience

Nuclear material operations / support experience (i.e. experience in a previous job where the individual performed nuclear material handling, radiational control functions, etc)

Understanding of applicable environmental laws and regulations, DOE Orders, SRS policies preferred

Ability to network, collaborate and communicate at all levels of the organization

May require enrollment and maintaining Human Reliability Program acceptance

May require certifications such as Rad Worker

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
