GENERAL SUMMARY: Assists with the coordination of work within the department. Participates on and/or leads project teams as assigned. Provides technical expertise, guidance and mentorship to team members of the Finance department. Trains other users within the department and across the Bryan Health system on core analytic and reporting systems. Assumes primary responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the data in the Decision Support system(s). Supports the entity Chief Financial Officers with business analysis to improve operations. Works collaboratively with Revenue Cycle and Materials Management to produce accurate and consistent analysis for the system. Actively seeks and develops new initiatives for improving performance based on Decision Support and Business Intelligence information. Provides input on performance evaluations and the hiring of new staff for the department. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Provides technical expertise, coaching and training to team members of the Finance department. 3. *Manages Epic Hospital and Professional Billing Reimbursement Contracts process including allocation of contracts for build and maintenance to all Epic certified team members. 4. *Provides coordination of work within the Finance department in consultation with the Bryan Medical Center CFO to avoid duplication of work and maximize use of resources and skills. 5. *Provides historical data and information necessary to monitor protocols, practice patterns, productivity and operational performance. 6. *Primarily responsible for identifying data needed, location of data and collection approach to obtain and maintain data from electronic information systems; collecting and organizing data from data warehouses (Epic, Strata, Health Catalyst, Telcor and other sources as needed), vendor extracts, departmental spreadsheets and databases, and internet/intranet (portal) sites for easy use by internal business and analytical clients. 7. *Leads the design and development of standard and specific data sets and reports; collaborates with individuals or teams to provide supporting data for analysis; determines appropriate date range, population, sample size and selection strategy. 8. *Takes the lead to design tools to create better understanding of key drivers impacting healthcare reform-related initiatives including value-based purchasing, meaningful use, readmission penalties, or other reimbursement-impacting programs, with the goal of driving clinical or operational performance improvement. 9. *Assumes expert role in establishing reliability and validity of data accessed for customers, including availability and quality of data. 10. *Assumes primary responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the Strata business intelligence system and works cooperatively with Data Analytics to modify the data feeds as needed. 11. *Performs analyses of information and process; analyzes, monitors and supports integration processes as appropriate. 12. Works closely with customers and data users to define critical information needs; provides guidance regarding availability of data and capability of systems to meet information needs. 13. Performs and/or assists with return on investment (ROI) analysis utilizing service line data as needed. 14. *Effectively facilitates and participates on multi-disciplinary teams; attends and participates in release, solutioning and project meetings and activities. 15. *Presents clinical, financial and system performance information appropriately, both verbally and in writing, to all audiences. 16. Maintains awareness of Medicare and Medicaid regulations. 17. Conducts audits of data and information, including medical records, to ensure accuracy and correctness. 18. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 19. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 20. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk "*.)" REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Knowledge of health care coding principles, i.e., ICD/CPT/DRG/APR-DRG. 2. Knowledge of governmental agency medical reimbursement policies and guidelines. 3. Knowledge of medical theory, practices and applications. 4. Knowledge of databases, data relationships, data quality and integrity. 5. Knowledge of current issues in the healthcare environment including quality measurement, outcomes studies, healthcare finance and patient safety. 6. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 7. Skill in accessing information from various computer databases and merging information into a usable format. 8. Ability to navigate and work with data from various internal and external database sources. 9. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing including working with physicians and senior management on sensitive political and confidential issues and with clients/users having a broad range of computer knowledge and ability. 10. Ability to prioritize work to meet imposed deadlines while working with minimal supervision. 11. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff. 13. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills. 14. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 15. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 16. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree or equivalency from a program in Business Administration, Finance, Nursing or Allied Health field of study required. Minimum of five (5) years' of relevant healthcare finance experience required. Master's degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience requirement. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Epic Resolute Hospital and Professional Billing Expected Reimbursement Contracts Administration Certified required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
