Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Production Controller to support a dynamic manufacturing facility that produces complex, mission-critical components for both submarine new construction and submarine overhaul programs. This role is vital in ensuring timely, efficient, and coordinated execution of manufacturing activities across multiple high-priority defense projects.

The Production Controller will be responsible for production planning, job tracking, coordination of shop floor activities, and oversight of the Manufacturing Work Request Form (MWRF) process - the formal mechanism used by overhaul project teams to initiate manufacturing support for submarine refit and maintenance work.

The Production Controller's primary responsibility is maintenance, review, tracking, and preparation for certification of Task Group Instructions, Condition Reports, MWRF's and all other technical work documents. He/she will assist the Production and Manufacturing Project Manager(s) with varieties of details associated with materials, schedules, and resource availability.

Interface with Project Managers, Supervisors, Craftsmen, NDT inspectors, Quality Assurance and other departments and organizations as required to support assigned projects. Interface will involve obtaining and providing information on matters of importance to the assigned Project Manager(s) and Production Manager.


Duties And Responsibilities

The Production Controller (PC) reports directly to the OII-MSD Production Manager (PM) for the performance of his/her responsibilities, or in the absence of the PM, an individual designated by the Production Manager. These responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Production Coordination:
  • Manage and schedule work orders to support both new construction and overhaul programs.
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), resolve workflow bottlenecks, and ensure timely completion of manufacturing tasks.
  • Interface daily with manufacturing, engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to maintain alignment across departments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production and technical issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to secure cooperation and approval for actions and solutions.
  • Interpret production processes and job-related information for team members.
  • MWRF Process Management:
  • Serve as the central point of contact for all Manufacturing Work Request Forms (MWRFs) initiated by submarine overhaul, DDS, and New Construction Project teams.
  • Review MWRFs for accuracy, completeness, and priority alignment.
  • Coordinate with WFE, planning, SCM, and manufacturing leads to translate MWRFs into actionable work orders and ensure scheduling within production workflows.
  • Project Support:
  • Track and report production status, material availability, and shop priorities to project stakeholders.
  • Support the timely fabrication and delivery of components critical to overhaul, DDS, and new construction schedules.
  • Work with project managers and project engineers to communicate delays or issues and help develop mitigation strategies.
  • Assist with preparing and reviewing quotations.
  • Coordinate manufacturing schedules with Project Managers to optimize machine and personnel utilization.
  • Drive and support process improvements to enhance efficiency in both the machine shop and fabrication shop.
  • Attend Project meetings as required to provide input or updates
  • Documentation & Compliance:
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with internal procedures, and quality standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process documentation refinement.
  • Have a basic understanding of U.S. Navy's Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual, NAVSEA Standard Items, and the SUBSAFE program.

Other Duties Assigned:

  • The above list is a representative sample of what the Production Controller may be asked to do. The Production Controller may perform other special projects or duties as required to support business needs.

Qualifications
  • High School/GED and additional administrative vocational courses.
  • Minimum eight years working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Personal computer literacy and familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effectively communicate with personnel within the company.
  • Prior knowledge of OII-MSD operations and trade experience (e.g., Welder, Fitter, Inside Machinist, Outside Machinist, etc.) is preferred.
