JOB SUMMARY
The HR Compliance Specialist is responsible for the initial setup and ongoing management of employment law compliance across multiple states. This role is critical in ensuring the company is fully compliant from day one as we expand operations into new jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will research and interpret federal, state, and local employment laws to establish compliant HR practices, policies, and documentation tailored to each state's requirements. This includes setting up compliant wage and hour practices, onboarding processes, leave programs, notices, and employee classifications specific to each location. This role plays a foundational part in building a legally sound HR infrastructure as the organization scales across state lines.

This position falls under a hybrid work schedule and is currently in the office one day every other week and as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required



  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or a related field.


  • Experience
    3 years of previous Human Resources compliance experience with a strong focus on multi-state employment law.


Preferred



  • Experience
    Experience working with PeopleSoft and UKG Dimensions
    Experience in high-touch customer service with a focus on problem solving.


JOB DUTIES



  • Monitor and interpret employment law changes in all states where the company operates, including wage and hour laws, leave entitlements, EEO, pay transparency, and more.
  • Review and update company policies, handbooks, and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with state-specific regulations.
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert (SME) on multi-state HR compliance issues.
  • Provide training and guidance to HR team members, managers, and other stakeholders on compliance-related topics.
  • Partner with Legal, Payroll, Benefits, and other departments to ensure consistent application of state laws.
  • Maintain compliance calendars and manage key HR filings.
  • Conduct internal audits and reviews to assess compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Respond to internal and external audits, investigations, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Ensure proper employee classification (exempt/non-exempt, contractor/employee) per state and federal guidelines.
  • Support HR operations by advising on compliant onboarding, terminations, and employee relations issues across various jurisdictions.
  • Identifies and raises continuous improvement opportunities/gaps to HR Leadership.
  • Assists with analyzing caseload individually, across the team and identify gaps or opportunities.
  • Researches, analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves issues. Processes, reviews, and/or audits various transactions.
  • Performs other duties as assigne
