Overview

Laboratory Services is seeking a Salary Chemist to support submarine construction programs and to comply with State and Federal regulatory requirements. The candidate will be required to perform and/or oversee; nuclear water chemistry, oil and metals analysis, cleanroom maintenance, compressed gas analysis. The candidate will be required to frequently access the Ships and Shipyard Construction areas.

In this position the Chemist is responsible for providing water, oil, metals, gas chemistry analysis and technical guidance to the Groton Facility.

The individual will be required to operate the Lab which includes:

    Prioritizing workload and directing technicians,
  • Ordering of supplies,
  • Maintenance of equipment,
  • Disposal of waste,
  • Housekeeping of the lab,
  • Generating reports,
  • Record keeping,
  • Data review,
  • Training and auditing technicians.

The candidate may be cross-trained in additional areas as required. The candidate is required to author and revise chemistry procedures used for the analysis, testing, and safety of these processes.

This role requires the candidate to interface with Shipyard Trades, Materials Management and Ship's Crew to coordinate and assist in chemistry sampling and analysis as required.



Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Navy experience as ELT

Preferred:

  • 3 years' experience using analytical chemistry such as Inductively Coupled Plasma, Gas and Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Benchtop Wet Chemistry Methods, X-Ray Fluorescence, Karl Fischer, Oil Analysis, Cleanroom experience or similar.
  • Experience in Nuclear Water Chemistry
