Halff has a current opening for a Senior Survey Crew Chief in our Oklahoma City, OK location. Works under the close direction of the Field Crew Coordinator and Team Leader in the functional area. Possess a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. The Senior Survey Crew Chief plays a critical role in providing accurate and reliable land surveying services for various parts. This position involves conducting field surveys, analyzing data, and ensuring the precise measurement and documentation of land and construction sites. The Senior Survey Crew Chief contributes to the successful execution of civil engineering projects by delivering high-quality surveying expertise.

What you will do:


  • Perform field surveys using advanced surveying equipment, including total stations, GPS, and laser scanners.
  • Provides direction and leadership to surveying teams in the field, ensuring efficient data collection and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Interpret construction and engineering plans, blueprints, Surveys and legal documents related to land boundaries and rights of way.
  • Successfully lead a two-or three-person surveyor field crew to accurately and efficiently perform field surveys in support of land development, transportation, utility, energy, and land surveying projects using conventional, GPS, or terrestrial laser scanning methodology.
  • Utilize Trimble Business Center (TBC) and computer-aided design (CAD) software to process and analyze survey data.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to provide surveying expertise and support project goals.
  • Prepare survey reports and field documentation for land title purposes and project compliance.
  • Assist in resolving discrepancies or issues related to property boundaries, easements, and other land-related matters.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in land surveying and geospatial technologies.
  • Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment to ensure accurate measurements and safe operation.


What you will need:


  • 5+ years of experience as a Crew Chief performing topographic surveys, ODOT, ALTA and boundary surveys, construction staking.
  • High school diploma.
  • CST Level I or Level II preferred but not required.
  • DOT experience preferred but not required.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
  • Strong understanding of land surveying principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Proficiency in operating conventional surveying instruments such as robotic total stations, digital levels, and data collectors.
  • Proficiency in using GPS and geospatial technologies for accurate data collection and analysis.
  • Proficiency in using surveying software.
  • Familiarity with TBC and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ORD) for processing survey data.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to land surveying and property rights.
  • Ability to manage surveying teams, delegating tasks, and ensuring work quality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to address challenges encountered during surveys.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and communicate technical information clearly.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple surveying projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in modern means of communication and effective use of smart portable devices.
  • High level of dependability, discipline, and responsibility to be a positive representative for Halff and remain punctual on a consistent basis.
  • Possess a meticulous attention to detail and keen eye to promote and ensure accuracy. There is minimal room for error in this position.
  • Strong willingness to comply with specific instructions that may be provided in different methods of communication.
  • Exceptional capacity to grasp new learning material.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be needed to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel generally up to two weeks at a time may be required for position, up to 50%.
  • Ability to pass a drug and background screen.
  • Must be able to arrive to work earlier than usual start time, beginning at 6:30am, Monday through Friday.
  • Candidates must be local or within reasonable proximity to the Oklahoma City area.


Physical Requirements:


  • Excellent physical condition to perform field work, outdoors, in various conditions including extreme heat, cold and wind.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
