Job Summary

The Loudoun County Health Department is seeking a dynamic and experienced Environmental Health Supervisor to lead the Rabies Program within the Environmental Health Division. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in protecting public health by overseeing rabies surveillance, prevention, education, and enforcement efforts. The Rabies Program Supervisor will manage program operations, provide guidance to staff, engage with internal and external stakeholders, and support program compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, and public health policies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise Environmental Health staff assigned to rabies control, ensuring quality performance, timely service delivery, and adherence to public health standards and regulations.
  • Oversee rabies case investigations, animal exposure follow-up, and confinement tracking.
  • Review and analyze surveillance data; use findings to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with medical facilities, animal control, veterinarians, and the public to coordinate rabies prevention and response activities.
  • Ensure program compliance with VDH and County regulations, and lead enforcement efforts when needed.
  • Provide technical assistance and subject matter expertise to staff and community partners.
  • Manage program databases, maintain accurate records, and prepare required reports and correspondence.
  • Support community outreach and education related to rabies awareness and prevention.
  • Participate in strategic planning and performance monitoring to support the Environmental Health Division's goals.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of public health principles and communicable disease control, particularly rabies and vector-borne diseases.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience, with the ability to mentor and support a high-performing team.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to manage time-sensitive investigations and operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience working with data systems and conducting quality assurance reviews.
  • Familiarity with state and local public health laws, regulations, and enforcement protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Biology, Chemistry or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of relevant environmental health or public health experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Must pass pre-employment background checks, including fingerprinting and DMV record check.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must obtain and maintain applicable professional credentials, depending on program assignment.
