Job Summary:



The University of Colorado seeks a full-time, in-person Business Services Program Manager to work in the Department of Pediatrics - Section of Nutrition at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado. The overall goal of this position is administrative leadership of the Section of Nutrition. This is an independent position.

Functions include scholarship support, statistical work, oversight of research regulatory activities, strategic planning, and broad unit business operations that combine research, HR, and operational management responsibilities. In addition, the position is responsible for organizing and establishing work processes, laboratory and office space oversight, and implementation of guidelines, regulations, and objectives required in research and adjacent areas. This person will report to the Section Head and work collaboratively with the business manager to develop and maintain relationships with various personnel throughout the Section, Department of Pediatrics, Children's Hospital Colorado, the School of Medicine, national entities, and/or partners with a special emphasis on the designated Section of Nutrition.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversight in the Section of Nutrition Research Business Administration



  • Work with the Department of Pediatrics pre- and post-award teams and business manager in overseeing the fiscal control provisions, contract negotiations (i.e., accounting procedures, use of general funds, terms and conditions of expenditure and authorization, agreements for indirect cost recovery, etc.) related to research activities
  • Serve as project coordinator for the Section of Nutrition NIH-funded T32 training program
  • Participate in strategic planning and implementation regarding short-term and long-term priorities, directions, and objectives, with leadership roles in the research portfolio
  • Develops and presents periodic and annual data reports of research program activities and outcomes in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics' centralized Grants & Contracts team
  • Provide high-quality, creative, and solutions-oriented financial support, advice, and counsel at the strategic, policy, and operational levels to the Section Leadership
  • Ensure efficient use of auxiliary services for cost attainment in collaboration with the business manager
  • Liaise with DOP pre- and post-award department, the Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC), the LEADS Center, and the Children's Hospital Research Institute for the Section
  • Provide support for the Associate Director of Research, principal investigators, lab managers, and their team on administrative tasks
  • Supervise research-related laboratory administration staff as assigned
  • Perform employee training and performance evaluation for direct reports
  • Lead the development and management of new and existing Section of Nutrition programs
  • Partner with CU and CHCO Community Outreach and Population Health programs to integrate the Section of Nutrition's strategic plan
  • Participate in collaboration with the Department of Pediatrics Grants & Contracts team grant proposal development and submissions, manuscript preparation and publication, presentations, in collaboration with the Section Head and designated faculty
  • Responsible for coordinating SON's interdepartmental and Section research plans across CU, National, and international teams
  • Responsible for regulatory oversight, including IRB on SON research and program grants
  • Perform biostatistical functions necessary to support manuscript preparation, preliminary data, etc.
  • Serve as needed or requested on School, Section projects, committees, and national organizations in place of the SH as directed
  • Solicit local and philanthropic grant funding for Section programs


Oversee and authorize purchases; process and approve financial actions in PeopleSoft Financial System under supervision with the business manager



  • Review and approve Contracts, invoices from other institutions or departments to the Micronutrient Laboratory and Section
  • Authorizing unit official for procurement and travel card applications
  • Approving official for procurement card and travel expense reports
  • Approving official for Center employee travel
  • Marketplace approver for Center personnel
  • Official Functions - review and approve/deny official function requests and supervise event planning and coordination with the business manager
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and staff regarding purchasing and travel issues
  • Main contact for facility and operational concerns of the Section on CU Campus
  • Supervise members of the Section of Nutrition administrative team as designated

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Health, Nutrition, Public Health, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, or related field
  • Three (3) years of professional-level research experience, including scholarship, grant writing, research implementation, and evaluation


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree in Human Health, Nutrition, Public Health, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, or related field
  • PhD degree in a health-related field
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical packages (e.g., SAS, SPSS, STATA, etc.)
  • Experience with Nutrition-related programming and research
  • Experience with computer and software applications such as Windows 2000, Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with the UCD Expense System and the NIH electronic submission process


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Expert knowledge of research-related administrative activities, including grant processes, content, regulatory needs, evaluation, and fiscal oversight
  • Knowledge of grant writing and scholarship
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information
  • Expert ability to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Critical reasoning skills, including financial analysis ability
  • Ability to critically consider data and results and review data quality and integrity
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral formats
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with a team with a wide range of training, experience, and backgrounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $70,550 to $110,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
