We are seeking an experienced Cloud Architect IV to lead the design, development, and governance of scalable and secure cloud solutions on AWS. This role demands expert-level knowledge of cloud-native architectures, infrastructure automation using Terraform, and DevOps best practices leveraging GitLab CI/CD. You will work closely with engineering, security, and enterprise architecture teams to define patterns, establish guardrails, and implement solutions across complex, multi-account AWS environments.

Location: Remote, US

Role qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture and engineering, with at least 5 years on AWS.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Terraform (v1.x), including modules, backends, state management, and provider lifecycle.
  • Strong experience building and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines for IaC deployments and automation workflows.
  • Deep understanding of AWS core services: VPC, IAM, ECS/EKS, EC2, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, and Route 53.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating secure multi-account AWS organizations using Control Tower, SCPs, and IAM roles.
  • Strong grasp of cloud security best practices, network segmentation, encryption, and compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, CIS).
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into technical design documents, architecture diagrams, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Proficient with shell scripting, Python or Go for automation and custom tooling.
  • Familiar with service catalog design, landing zones, and GitOps-based deployment strategies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional.
  • Experience with AWS Organizations, Service Control Policies, and centralized logging/security models.
  • Experience integrating third-party tools (e.g., Tyk Gateway, Palo Alto, HashiCorp Vault, Gitlab EE) into cloud-native environments.
  • Familiarity with containerized deployments, Helm, and Kubernetes on EKS.
  • Background in software development or DevSecOps.
  • Experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP, HiTrust, DoD IL4+)

What you will be doing:

  • Architect, design, and validate scalable, secure, and cost-optimized AWS solutions in accordance with organizational standards and compliance requirements (e.g., FedRAMP, HiTRUST, FIPS).
  • Lead development of Infrastructure as Code using Terraform with an emphasis on modularity, reusability, and automation at scale.
  • Develop and maintain GitLab pipelines for infrastructure provisioning, validation, security scanning, and deployment orchestration.
  • Establish cloud architecture patterns, controls, and shared services for use across the organization.
  • Evaluate and recommend cloud-native services and third-party tools to enhance platform capabilities and improve developer experience.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and security teams to enforce policy-as-code, access controls, and secure provisioning standards.
  • Perform architectural reviews, threat modeling, and participate in change control processes.
  • Mentor junior architects and engineers, driving knowledge sharing and technical leadership across the organization.
